He paid taxes, which a portion is allocated to foreign aid...
He just didn't have the habit or see the point. He never acquired that value, he was good at what he does but not necessarily in philanthropic activities.
Here's one, how come Bill Gates closed down office in U.S and exported them to India? Doesn't he care about American jobs like Steve did?

"Even though Jobs earned only $1 a year as CEO of Apple, he held 5.426 million Apple shares, as well as 138 million shares in Disney (which he had received in exchange for Disney's acquisition of Pixar). Forbes estimated his net wealth at $8.3 billion in 2010, making him the 42nd wealthiest American."

arent the vast majority of apple's manufacturing centers based in china and korea and more recently brazil? if youre talking about retail jobs then yes, steve cares about american jobs...dont most large-cap american companies have their manufacturing based overseas now anyways? it certainly feels like it right?

Because he's a prick.
You also don't pay taxes when your money is tied up in bonds / stocks. You can thank him for not supporting your economy by paying his personal taxes, outsourcing work to asian companies and buying components from foreign countries so very little of Apples spent money is recirculated into America.

Who cares?
He earned his damn money, he should be able to do with it as he please. I'm all for charity, but most of them are corrupt in reality. The Red Cross for example is one of the most corrupt organizations there is.
Throwing money at situations also rarely helps. Actually giving your time to charity is far more valuable than any monetary gift you could give.
