I heard when you lose weight, the fat cells dont go away, they just shrink and in order to remove the fat cells, you need to have lipo done. Is this true?

But what exactly is a drawback of a shrunk fat cell? Like would body composition look much different vs someone who lost weight and had lipo to remove the fat cells?

a shrunk fat cell can refill. A fat cell that has been removed can't (cause it's gone).

the drawback is $$$ and the fact that you could look pretty weird if you gain weight.

Hmmm...interesting. So if a person got lipo and gained weight again then new cells would be created and would fat be gained in a different area as opposed to a person who lost weight naturally and gained weight...the fat would just refill in a previous fat cell...kinda like the theory that the last place you lose weight is the first place you will gain it back? eh, that probably didnt make too much sense.

But one thing im curious about how the body will look physically on a person who lost weight naturally vs lipo...is there any difference?

This is true. Also, after liposuction you remove a number of fat cells but they can come back slowly during the next year although they might be distributed throughout your body differently. I believe the overall number will be the same though and the fat itself tends to come back also. However, more studies need to be done in humans to confirm this. Fat cells will shrink to an extremely thin layer so that they are almost not noticeable. Bodybuilders who compete still have fat cells but they are extremely depleted of lipids.
