Plenty, 14 plates really isn't that much. What does that come out to, a little over 600lbs. I just wanted to get some work in since I thought it best not to squat. But I got in like 120 reps so thats good.
Thanks. But it is what it is. Lots of years of abuse, my shoulders where bound to start hurting at some point. Funny thing is it hurts less on the heavier weight, and right now, I'll be happy to just bench 450 at the next meet, which I am pretty confident I can, shoulder hurting or not. I didn't bench last weekend and did no shoulder work either. I did some shoulder work this Tuesday and it felt ok, we'll see how it feels Saturday.
I think I forgot to post this in the beginning, but here the 515x10 I did starting this squat cycle. The grunt in the beginning was due to my left AC joint killing me and squatting just made it worse, well not worse, just hurt a whole ****ing lot.....
I have to find some older ssquat videos from over 10 years ago, when I actually wore a belt. Or maybe some of my shirt benching....lol Find people might find that interesting.Crom Laughs....

Face pulls are a STAPLE in my shoulder training. I do swap them with band pull aparts sometimes, but lately they were bothering me. I do stretch them and do alot of other things for them, but I do slack on them. But I dont think they helkped too much. My partner Troy is in orthopedics and hes checked out my shoulders, he doesn't think I have anything too seriously wrong with them, tears and what not, cause I'm not really showing signs of that, BUT he can't be absolutely sure obviously without an MRI and he said since my shoulders are so big, I could be compensating somewhere where it wouldn't be noticable on the normal checks. He thinks I have rotator cuff tendonitis and my AC joints, which he said I would probably have to have the bone shaved down, which I doubt I will go do.
Problem is really mostly on benching. For example, I'll start warming up, get to 315, first 3 or so are fine, then after that I get real bad pain right at the bottom as I bring it down. Then racking it hurts pretty bad. But the heavier weights I don't really feel on the bottom just after I rack it.Then, there some weeks I go in and I feel no pain at all. We'll see how Saturday goes since I rested a bit.Crom Laughs....

LOL!!
Well, I know you can judge depth better from a video than a person who is there watching from the side. But I am going to go with the person watching me from the side. First, cause he's there and second, hes been in powerlifting longer than most people on this forum have been alive, so I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about, he hasn't steered me wrong yet. But regardless, its a training video and I could care less what people think.
But to answer your question, I have squatted 600+ at least a dozen times in competition with the best being 680
And as far as my age and squatting, I still haven't even hit my prime. But thanks for your concern.Crom Laughs....

10/29/11
Bench Day
barx15
95x10
135x10
225x8
275x7
315x6
365x6
405x3
425x2
435x1 - paused
445x1 - paused
Swiss bar Extensions
barx10
110x12
120x12
130x10
Hammer Strength Inclines
5 sets x 10
Cable Crossovers
3 sets x 12
Pressdowns/Kickbacks - supersetted
3 sets x 12
Shoulder felt good today so went with it. 445 went up pretty easy. Taking off benching last week paid off. We'll see how long this lasts, not long I suspect. But my goal is to hit at least 450 at the meet, and that won't be a problem, even if the shoulder is hurting. Might've made a mistake doing the swiss bar extensions, was hurting the right elbow and its still hurting.Crom Laughs....

I love inclines, I used to do them all the time, used to be able to do 405 for a few reps. But unfortunately my shoulder gives me too many problems. I was recently thinking about going back and trying again, but do them with a much closer grip, but not sure. Right now its feeling ok, so we'll see how long that lasts, might not be long at all. But I do believe heavy inclines is a great assistance for the bench. As is dumbbell floor presses, which I would like to start again too. I do the Hammer Strength Inclines purely to build muscle.
Declines are a waste in my opinion, plus I always felt awkward doing those.
Thanks, hopefully the numbers will get bigger, least on the squat, not sure on the bench. I was telling one of my training partners last night, that if I can have health shoulders for just 6 months, I'd have a real good shot of cracking 500. But alas, I do not...lol
That pic is a couple years old, think I weighed about 258 or so. I don't take many pics of myself, especially posing or slighly posing, actually took that pic for my wife, she likes that.....lol Maybe, I'll work on getting a new one.....Crom Laughs....

Bench Day
barx15
95x8
95x5
135x8
185x5
225x8
275x6
315x6
365x6
405x3
430x2
440x1 - paused
440x1 - paused
Dumbbell Floor Presses
70x12
105x10 - started feeling pain
125x8 - had to stop here, shoulder hurting too much
Chest Press Machine - I use the inner neutral grip on this, simulates a floor press as best I can
rack x 12
rack+35plate x 12
rack+plate x 10 - dropped plate, did rack for another 8
Hammer Strength Inclines
5 sets x 10 - short rests here - not helping strength, doing this for muscle
Cables Crossovers
3 sets x 12
Pressdowns/Kickbacks
3 sets x 15/12
Today went really well. Surprised, cause warming up I felt like ****, 365 felt heavy as all heck, but then 405 flew. Tried doing more sets on warmup to help the shoulder, yeah, that didn't help. Started feeling pain on the 315 set. Surprisingly, again, felt fine with everything from 405 and up. the paused 440 sets went up real easy. I had to stop the floor presses, really pissed as I LOVE these as an assistance for bench. So unfortunately I am REALLY limited to assistance for the bench right now. I think I mentioned this before and I was talking to one of my partners, Troy. I will be happy with a 450 bench for the meet, which I no doubt have, but would really like to hit 470. Though that might be rough.Crom Laughs....

glad the shoulder held up during benching, but i'm confused as to why it hurt more during floor pressing? i thought floor presses were supposed to be better for your shoulders?
thanks for the response on incline/decline... i LOVE incline and recently started with decline since i can't do regular bench (SLAP tear in my right shoulder)Keep getting bigger and stronger without messing up my joints (already pretty screwed)

I wish I knew...lol. It actually hurts the same on the bench too. Its just after I start doing some reps, singles, doubes or triples really don't hurt. It usually starts around 315, and once I get to the 4th or 5th rep I start getting the pain and its at the bottom right before I touch my chest. Can't explain it.

Started the morning getting a text from my partner Joe, he wasn't gonna make it, he was in the hospital with his girlfriend. After that, REALLY didn't want to squat, but I had no choice, I missed 2 weeks in a row already. Started warming up, felt OK, but the 600 felt like a ton, knew 640 would be rough. Felt better than I thought, but still real heavy. I leaned forward a bit on the second. Not too big a deal, back feels fine. Pretty confident that the reason it all felt so heavy was not squatting for 2 weeks, I hate not having anything remotely heavy on my back for that long, one week, ok, 2, not good. So I am counting on next week to be better. I was suppose to do 640 for a triple, but I'll take the double. Still a good day considering I missed the 2 weeks and hurt the back back 3 weeks ago.

sorry to hear about your partner's gf, hope she's ok! numbers look awesome for 2 weeks off of squatting... i love the vids you put up.
you say you leaned forward on the second rep at 640... it seems like you lean forward a fair amount for each rep, or at least your back goes more horizontal than i'd expect. you obviously know way more than i do about squatting, so i was just wondering if leaning forward that much is considered normal?Keep getting bigger and stronger without messing up my joints (already pretty screwed)

Nice Mike, solid double. You looked really strong even after the time off. I think the hardest part about not squatting for a period of time is how heavy everything feels when you come back to it. Whats your work set going to be this weekend, 660ish?

Yeah, I think shes ok, thanks. I do have a lean in my squats, thats just how I squat, and sometimes when you start putting that much weight on your back you're gonna lean. But, I have been working on my form alot more and trying to keep at straight as possible. If you look at each rep, my back stay in the same position for the whole rep. The 2nd rep with 640, you can see how I went forward a bit, then back. Thats what I was taking about when I said lean. I don't like doing that, and always try not too, just puts too much stress on my lower back. I think it was because the weight was just feeling heavy that day from the layoff. I expect it to feel better next week.
Thanks, the weight isn't heavy for me. Just felt like it that day, and like I've said a few times, I'm pretty confident its cause of the 2 week layoff. The plan is 650 this week. So probably be going up 10 pounds a week or so, hopefully.Crom Laughs....

Yeah it's definitely from the layoff. I just meant it sucks how everything feels heavy on your back after time off. Worst feeling when you unrack one of your warm up sets and it feels 200lbs heavier on your back lol. Kill that 650 Mike, just another stepping stone for 700+!

Well, usually everything feels heavy until I get to the 600 range, THEN thats when thing usually start feeling good!! LOL!!
The other thing I forgot too was that I didn't pick my warmups right. I should've done 420,480,520,570,610 then 640. Over 600 I really don't like taking more than 30lb jumps. But I realized it too late, so I think that was one reason too. Next time I'll go 480x2,530,580,620 then go for 650x2.
Sorry, I'm trying to get stronger.....Crom Laughs....

Mike, you are a straight up animal and a true inspiration to dedicated raw lifters.
Looking forward to seeing you hit that magical 700 squat in the near future. Stay healthy my friend.
BTW - Any meets planned in the NE area? I'm thinking of doing the RPS meet in the April timeframe in York, PA.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No. 13
