Soreness in the hamstrings after deadlift day

    Hello everybody.

Yesterday I did 4 sets of deadlifts.

I was thinking, as everybody told me on the internet, that deadlift were the best exercise for building a massive back.

However, today, instead of feeling soreness in any part of my back, I just feeling some fatigue in my hamstrings. No feeling at all in the back.

So, how could a back exercise target principally a leg muscle ?

Hamstrings are a big mover in the deadlift. The entire posterior chain is.

Your individual form can help sway which muscles are emphasized more. If you post a video it might make things more clear.

It could also be that your legs are less trained/weaker than your low back so it is feeling it more.

Just a guess, but I'll bet you're stiff-legging the weight; your butt is coming up before your shoulders move up.

    ^This

The deadlift works primarily the lower back, but hams and glutes are both hit very hard as well, what you are experiencing is quite normal.

    This.

Although it's a big part of the lift, your hamstrings would not suffer such a serious extent of DOMS. However... I'm not even sure 'how' sore his hams are.

This is sort of a good thing if he isn't getting any lower back pain. It means he performed an SLDL/RDL depending on knee bend very well.

I get hamstring/glute DOMS as well more often than back on deadlifts and honestly I wouldn't trade it for the reverse.

I usually get sore in my hams, glutes and lower back when I do deadlifts
