    Improving Deadlift Grip

I been struggling with the same weight (255x5) for a few workouts now. All my other lifts are pretty much increasing consistently cept for my deads because my grip starts to fail after the 2nd or 3rd rep. The bar starts to slip, idk if it's my caluses that are causing it but I usually have trouble to go all the way and lock out my back because the bar starts to slip forward.

How can I improve my grip? It's not an issue for any other lift.

Chalk and/or liquid grip (depending on what your gym allows).

Also, static holds - load up a BB with 255 (or more) and simply hold it for as long as you can. You can either do this starting from a deadlift or from a rack pull position.

Do you use chalk? If not that cold help. Or if its just that you have a weak grip you could try farmer walks

I understand this mentality I do. I get it. HOWEVER are you a bodybuilder or a powerlifter? if you are a bodybuilder does it make ANY SENSE at all to hold back the development of your muscles because your GRIP can't keep up? It doesn't. It just doesn't. Strap it up. ALSO, the switch grip shouldn't be unused for ANY reason. If you're still hung up on the straps there is no reason not to do the mixed grip. None. The biggest baddest no strap using beast of a god that I know uses the mixed grip. Do it.

If going for size - your back size is limited by the strength of your forearms
If going for strength - you can use mixed grip in competition

tl;dr, use straps or a mixed grip, there is no reason not to.

I don't use an alternate grip because I'm still trying to get my form down correctly and I'm paranoid about ripping my bicep.

Meh. I wouldn't say I'm either. Right now I'm more of a powerlifter and building a solid strength base and then I'd try and be more of a bodybuilder I guess.

I read that mixed grip causes imbalances and could potentially tear your bicep, and people use mixed grip once they get to a higher weight deadlift compared to mine.

If you're into powerlifting and maybe going to compete raw then by all means work your grip to keep up with the rest of your muscular development. Using a mixed grip does NOT risk a bicep tear. Just make sure to alternate your grip every set meaning don't use the same hand over same hand under every set. Switch them.

If your grip is not holding you back there IS no reason to. If you get to a point where your muscles can pull more than your grip can maintain switching to the alt grip allows pulling more weight. adding straps increases this further.
