I tend to agree. You guys armour up like battle tanks and dont really run that hard at each other.
Guys who play union hit each other with nothing but there raw bodies. They also have the stamina to
complete every facet of the game, and run a full 80 minutes. NFL players specialise in certain areas and thus
are not overall as athletic. eg. blockers cannot run further then 30 yards at snail pace. A foward in union can run the whole game and still keep 120kg of bodyweight.
So my american mate, who played for the dallas cowboys 3 years ago summised that NFL players arent as athletic or tough as UNION players.
He was american. So he isn't biased.
As you were misc.

I've watched 3 rugby world cup games and I haven't seen the same smash-mouth type of football like there is in NFL.
In rugby the players are quite close to each other to the hits on impact don't present the same force unlike there is in NFL. It seems like in rugby it's more grabbing and pulling your opponent to the ground.
Besides, if you've got more protective gear on you're more likely to go in harder on someone.

Brb 'armoring up like a battle tank' because a 6'6 250lb linebacker is running at me to tackle me with 4.6 40 speed.
Not gonna say that the sport isnt a hardcore one but dont let what you see on TV fool you.
Sure on TV it looks soft, maybe even slow. But in real life everything moves at an incredible pace.
A small hit or tackle on TV would look like a crushing blow in real life..
I was lucky enough to be on the sidelines at a college football game last year. At that time I was 6' 230lbs and solid (played FB at the time). And the team dwarfed me.
Everything moved so fast and so violently that I was in awe.
By the time a quarter back takes a five step drop he can hit a receiver 20-30 yards down field.
Do you understand what that means?
And theres a guy keeping up with that receiver. And he's most likely a corner or safety (a safety can weigh anywhere from 180-225).
If a guy from your sport suited up for an NFL game I promise he would not come out saying that it is in any way 'soft'.Havent lifted since 2014 after benching 355 and ruining shoulder.
Hoping to make it back into the gym after the Resolutioners clear out mid February.

you understand a year ago an NFL player was paralyzed from a hit, and people have died/ been paralyzed for like from some american football hits. the only reason pads other then a leather helmet were implemented was to prevent the amount of chronic injuries/ deaths in college football in the late 1800s and early 1900s

OP has never played or watched football before, football players DO hit harder then rugby players,
rugby requires more speed and endurance, football is more strength and size
In rugby, players usually dont full on nail each other, in football you run at full speed plowing a person over, thats why pads are needed
EDIT: theres also a reason why intentional helmet to helmet hits in football is illegal, and players get fined for it
