    I dont know about genetics, but my thighs are 24.4 inches and my arms only 12.9, not only do I rarely train my legs, but I try not to when doing workouts, they are like ****ing tree trunks and severely put my proportions out of whack, but I hear its quite common in people who used to be super obese to have huge thighs and calves.

    I'll buy it, when I was around 240-250 I had 22" calves and only dropped 2" on them while dropping 60 pounds. Never been under 19" on my calves

    Could it be that calves are a muscle that respond to almost cardio like levels of activity as opposed to weight training?

    I recently read Arnold's autobiography. In it, he has a large section dedicated to calves telling of how it was his original weak point and how many of his younger photos he would hide his calves during photo shoots, etc.

    He said the cure he found to grow the calves is extremely heavy weights. He mentioned that the calves are a muscle made to withstand light-moderate weight for many reps, due to the leg's function of walking, etc. The cure he found was heavy, heavy weights...more than he originally thought he could do.

    I used the same philosophy after reading this chapter, and started loading the machines, maxing the standing calf raise, donkey calf raise machines, and found that my calves also started to grow. It was a strange thing, I thought loading a few plates, or doing 200-300lbs was origially enough weight to grow..but am finding that you need to break this mental barrier and your body can actualy handle much more weight. I calf raising the max which is 400lbs+ and am now moving to adding plates to the machine for reps.

    The calf muscle, atleast to me, seems to be able to handle this weight, you just have to keep at it for a few workouts and I think you will start seeing the results you are looking for. Just load 50lbs more, 100lbs more than you think you normally can handle, and you will see in 2-3 workouts you are repping that much.

    I have always done a lot of hiking up large mountains and so on and my calves are 16in without any direct training. I think it is part genetics as well but I would like to see people with small calves try hiking steep hills a couple times a week and see if they get results

    I dont do anything for mine and they're pretty decent.

    I did play rugby and ride actual bicycles til I was quite old though ( lived in small town didn't need car ) - and then my mate whos lifted for 12 yrs does his legs twice a week has insane huge and cut quads but tiny little lady calves .. I believe that it's mostly genetics.

    Also will trade calves for chest - pst.
