Man tries to make for himself in the fashion that suits him best a simplified picture of the world; he then tries to substitute this cosmos of his for the world of experience, thus to overcome it. This is what the painter, the poet, the philosopher, and the scientist do, each in his own fashion. Each makes this cosmos and its construction the pivot of his emotional life, in order to find in this way the peace and security which he cannot find in the narrow whirlpool of personal experience.

Damn. That's a solid list.
Also, radiohead from the OP is wins. In Rainbows is still on regular rotation in my car.
My tastes are really eclectic, but all time favorite is probably Brand New, specifically God and The Devil Are Raging Inside Me. That still has numerous songs that give me the chills.
Work harder, smarter, and longer - overtraining is simply a state of mind.
Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, AC/DC, Disturbed, System of A Down, Iron Maiden to name a few lol

while pearl jam and radiohead are easilly my top 2 i gotta give love to some of my other favorites:
sonic youth, sleater-kinney, soul coughing, zeppelin, doors, soundgarden, alice in chains, wild flag, deerhoof, the who, mudhoney
I also like Britteny spears, bon jovi, eric clapton, the black eyed peas, lmfao, jay Z, nas, modest mouse, bruce springstein, rush, led zeppelin, DMX, Rod Stewart, akon, david guetta, quiet riot, twisted sister, vanilla ice, red hot chilli peppers, joni mitchell, smashing pumpkins, the pogues, steve earle, fleetwood mac, Kayne, the rolling stones, america, rihanna, great big sea, pearl jam, nirvana, eminem, dr.dre, kim mitchell, the zac brown band, janis joplin, just to name a few...
Between the Buried and Me, Iron Maiden, August Burns Red, Metallica, Mega Deth, Stone Temple Pilots, Led Zep, Rush, HORSE: The Band, Just a few, kinda all over the rock spectrum from classic to metal.
If that doesn't give you goosebumps, then you have no soul.
Sigur Ros - Olsen Olsen
Same for this. (Must listen to the entire song - a 30 second clip from any individual portion will not represent the entire song.)
Dukend - have you listened to Jonsi's solo material? If not...
It's very Sigur Ros fashion: have to be patient for the first half of the song, which is very calm and melodic, then the second half just has this long build-up and then this ridiculous eclectic clashing of sounds. Minds will be blown.

Yeah I saw that announcement. I'll have to see what my funds look like, but I imagine by the time I find out whether it's affordable the show will be sold out :\ And it's at Aragon Ballroom (Alan Aragon Ballroom?), which is way better than UIC in my opinion. I've seen Mars Volta and LCD Soundsystem/Hot Chip at Aragon. I think it's a great venue.

Lucky. I wanted to see that show so bad (big hot chip fan, only kind of LCD though). Now it seems like Hot Chip is touring everywhere but the US for a while.

That's how I felt at first, too. All My Friends blew me away the first time I heard it, but the rest of their stuff was kind of 'meh'. Once I saw them at Pitchfork in 2010, my mind was eternally demolished. Even flew out to NYC with some friends to see one of their final shows before retiring. If you're ever bored and feel like giving it another shot:

In philosophy my prof always had on Arcade Fire...do you also like Radiohead?
You're into philosophy I'm guessing..?
Boom...stereotyped!
Very much into philosophy. And of course I like Radiohead. Anyone who doesn't like Radiohead has only heard 1-2 songs. They are one of the few bands (like Arcade Fire, coincidentally), who just can't seem to do wrong. Every album they release is, at worst good, and on average genius.
But yeah, love philosophy. Had enough credits to minor in it, actually, but went to neuroscience minor route instead since it's kiiiiind of applicable to my future career. I know a lot of Arcade Fire people who aren't into philosophy at all, though ;P
