650 18" dead as an opener in the last event isn't very friendly.
good lawd

This isn't yellow cards and offsides phaggot. This here's a mans sport!!!!
offside.
singular.
phaggot.
that is one hell of a deadlift opener though.

Log for max weight starting at 90k
Dead for max weight starting at 180k
Grip car deadlift test 75secs with 300kg

Better come in spikes up....and by spikes up I mean, don't let fear and common sense stand in your way.

It was hard and quite painful. This coming weekend shouldn't be too awfully bad.

Yeah I'm looking forward to it. Had a duff session yesterday due to elbow pain and not listening to my body. Any tips for the newbie? And is it this Sat for your next comp mate?

Best tip is to know when to train through pain and when to adjust training because of it. Typically, if it is some nuisance thing like tendinitis I just train through it. If it sticks around for a few weeks, I will change up training a bit to see if I can not aggravate it. Now I just hurt my wrist at a competition on February 9th and had to avoid cleaning heavy weight and had to use wrist wraps on even light weight for a while to train around it. In that case, you just have to train around it using movements that cause no pain. It will take a while to figure out, but you will get there.
Another point it to control when you are beat up. You never want to start a training cycle into a meet in a beat up state. If I set up a 12 week training cycle, I like to throw in a few light days in weeks 5,6 and 7. That way (assuming a somewhat fresh start), I can train hard through the entire cycle without being beat up by the time the competition comes.
Lastly, elbow pain can be trumped by simply getting a pair of 2-ply thor sleeves from Strength Shop. Just put them on when you feel the pain starting.
This Saturday is the next comp.

Thank you for the advice mate, much appreciated. Funnily enough have just ordered a pair of 2-plys today! Good luck with Saturday.

This sucked. It was very well apparent that I had not touched a tire all winter. The thing was knobby and a pain to flip. Wasted a good 20 seconds fumbling around with grip. Finished in last in this event.
225 x good
253 x good
280 x hold on chest forever and never feel balanced.
All went well until the log. I just have to go ahead and realize that log pressing isn't comfortable and just press the motherf*cker. Finished like 8th or 9th her though....somehow.
Farmer's Hold
305 x max time
I made it 19.7 seconds and my goal was <15....so I made that but should have gutted out another 10 seconds. This is probably the worst event ever. 9th or 10th here.
Sandbag Medley
200 x 50', 250 x 50'
Did decent here. Something like 23 sec, but fumbled with the bag too much. Should have cut out about 8 seconds. Placed 5th or 6th I think.
18" Deadlift
650 x 1
This was a last man standing, rising bar format. I had to open at 650 and take 50 lb jumps. Hit 650 alright, but could not break 700 from the ground.
Didn't really know what to expect out of this competition, but I am overall very unhappy with it. I should have practiced with a tire a bit more, should have pressed that damn log, should have gutted out more time on the hold, shouldn't have bobbled the sandbag, should have been able to pull 700. Whether it was a case of vaginitis or a lingering competition hang over cause from competing back to back weekends....I do not know, but this should not have been as hard as it was.
From here, I am going to slow down a bit. My job description at work has changed drastically and I need to focus on that for a while to maintain my funding to do all this training/competing/eating stuff. I have taken all of this week off from training and have been pretty steadily working 12-14 hour days. Started at 6 am and I am taking a break to write this up now. This will continue for a few weeks, so my training will be a bit lack luster until I get the hang of doing two jobs at once.
When I get back to training, I am going to use my same layout I have been, but will add conditioning and agility work to the actual training days (maybe conditioning on Sunday). This will allow me two late nights at work without messing with training. Also, I need the conditioning a bit. I am fairly decently conditioned for a SHW fella, but I need to up it a bit more to keep progressing. I do not intend on dropping much weight, but not being able to eat as much at work will put a hurting on me for sure. I will make it work now.
Next contest is in late August (for now) and until then, I will be training with a focus on conditioning and bettering myself at the events as they would be run in a competition.

Is it me or did that tire look short but pretty thick? Pretty knarly looking.
That was a stout tire. Shoulder bruising was in effect for a solid 3-4 days after.

They were pretty light though. That particular log sucks really badly though.
