Deadlift
Deadlift
455 x 1
495 x 1
525 x 1
555 x 1
*Form revisions are a work in progress. Still getting pulled forward by the weight.
18" Pulls
555 x 1
605 x 1
635 x 3
555 x 10
*18" pulls suck.
Lat Pulldowns
200 x 15 (2 sets)
Dropset of 240 x 5, 200 x ?, 160 x ? 120 x ?, 80 x ?
Not a terrible day as I hit all my target weights, but pulls from the floor are frustrating as I am trying to adapt to my new leverages.

Strong work Paul and glad to hear you're working on your form and technique.
How is the nutrition coming along.
I bought 5lbs of ground beef and when looking at it I thought of you and asked myself "would Paul eat all this beef in one sitting."
Reading that back right now it sounds pretty homo haha.My training log: https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=178464441

Well....the nutrition and form and technique are all a cause/effect. I am down to 296.6 as of Wednesday morning. Will probably be around 295 next Saturday (5/3). Will do a bit of a load into the 5/10 contest to make sure I have fuel to go. After that, getting to 285, then hovering, then getting back to 300 at a lean and jact composition.
I have to change my technique because I just don't have the mass behind the bar I once did. Will take a bit, but it will be all good.
No, I will not eat 5 lbs of beef in one sitting....unless it is an eating challenge and I get it for free if I finish it.Strongman Training Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=138026593

Did you lose weight on purpose right now or was it the move?

Yeah. I have been dieting down since after my Feb 8th contest. I weighed in at 325 and was pretty strong, but couldn't move well. Most of the big time competitions are involving more moving/medley type events and are straying away from max weights, so I wanted to drop to about 285 and move back up from there while working on quickness.
It isn't too bad. What sucks is going through 3 boxes of Fruity Pebbles a week....ok, that doesn't suck that much.Strongman Training Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=138026593

You should quit cutting weight. Gotta have muscle before you can cut and get shredded....nomsayin?Strongman Training Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=138026593

Yeah. That's why I got started with him, but there's no way I was going to really restrict myself while on vacation. The week of Philly travel I really did do my best to stick with the diet, but it's always hard to comply as well as you would otherwise when you're at home. Like I said, nose to the grindstone now.

Which you can easily do without spending a ton of time on dynamic movements. But each has their own way....my statement was aimed at the irony of your mentioning of my training tendencies to somewhat resemble crossfit and my opinion (and that of many others) that Crossfit overemphasizes mobility, which I think is a common trait in your training.

adult stuff, come back in 15 years.
Yup. For me, the actual movement is the best warmup. I have been enlightened over the past year or so. I was all about mobility stuff until I found how easily it can be over done. Just a fine line you have to walk.Strongman Training Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=138026593

My biggest issue was that I was so damn concerned with being mobile that it detracted from a proper warmup. Just because you do Agile 8 (Limber 11) and what not does not mean you are ready to squat. Targeting of the muscles that will do the work with some isolation and some good reps on your warm up sets that will loosen up the muscles used for the day is so much better.
This was given to me by one of my training partners when it took me 30-40 minutes to perform my full body warmup before event days. He said it was ridiculous and most of that could be done with a few more warmup sets. Works great.
Also, most people I see warming up at competitions or back in the commercial gyms doing these mobility drills are not performing them close to correctly. It is very easy to cheat them and then the movement becomes pointless, perhaps detrimental.
If there is an area that has bad mobility, by all means, address it. Just don't be silly about what actually needs to become more mobile. Some rigidity in strength sports is needed. Brian Carroll's book goes into this quite a bit. Let the movement be mobile, let your body be strong.Strongman Training Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=138026593

Events
Axle Clean & Press
210 x 3
230 x 3
250 x 3
*Clean Once
200 x 6 in 60 sec
*Clean each Rep
Farmer's Pick and Kinda Hold
250
280
330
*The handles I have are tough to grip. The handles were painted and that is rather slick....don't paint your handles.
Sandbag Carry
200 x 200' (2 sets)
Wanted to get some work in with the axle. Main thing is that I can clean the axle with a double overhand grip. This is a must to know as it is faster in the medley. The pick went well on the farmers, but the damn things are kind of slick. Also don't want to get in the business of peeling a callous off my hand with a comp in two weeks.
