Sweet. We can share rubbers in concord. I'm a 3x as well.

Ha! My gf's aunt/uncle bought me two sweaters for Christmas. They were a bit tight around my arms/shoulders. They were XXLs. This store does not have XXXL....I got store credit, which went toward new socks and a wicked awesome new pair of slippers.

*I wanted to use a decent weight today and focus on clean and pressing in "two breaths". Basically, first breath is before the first pull and the second breath is with the log in your lap. I caught myself breathing in the rack position on my ME day last week. Not breathing in the rack position is rather critical for a max log attempt as you can lose tightness and negate leg drive. Goal today was a good tempo from the lap to lockout. Not bad, but still have work to do.
Z Press
120 x 3
120 + 50c x 3
120 + 90c x 3
120 + 50c x 3
120 x 3
*This was tougher than I thought it was going to be. Almost tipped over on rep #2 of the top set.
DB Incline Press
75 x 15 (3 sets)
Band Pressdowns ss with Lateral Raises
Light x 25/25 x 20 (3 sets)
Band Face Pulls ss with Pull Aparts
Light x 20/Mini x 15
Holy smokes that fried me.

The heels are still a bit snug. When it is >35* out....flip flops.
Flip flops just don't give me enough support and I don't like the thing between my toes. I rock the under armour flops with the strap across the top of your foot.....with socks when I want to embarrass the kids/wife

I am trying to keep a bit of load off my hips for the next little bit as I approach my contest so that I can focus more on the deadlift and log press, which are contest events. Chains help with this greatly.

Love them. They hit all areas of the press that troubles me. Core stability, upper back strength and lockout power (pretty much all ares of the press). Much more difficult for me with a log than a barbell.

viking pressing always looked pretty fun to me. would like to try it one day.

It was weird in the way that it really involved a lot of delt and not a ton of triceps, which dominate my other presses. The pain between sets (especially the 9 rep set) was pretty high. Could not lift arms.

Max log, max 18" deadlift, husafel carry for distance and a grip medley (just added).
Reasoning for selecting this was something to work towards during winter training. Winter training was focused on static strength, so the two last man standing style max lifts is something that I thought fit well into the goals.

Looks like a good winter contest to train for...not a ton of moving and not horribly taxing. I'm a strongman snob...I don't like doing contests that don't have stones

515 x 1 (2 sets)
535 x 1 (2 sets)
555 x 1 (2 sets)
575 x 1 (2 sets)
*These felt a bit different. Goal today was to get some volume at higher intensities in to get use to the movement in a manner that would still be heavy. Mission accomplished.
GHR
BW x 50 total reps
*Took 8 sets.
Shrugs ss with CG Pulldowns
315 x 15/180 x 15 (3 sets)
Feeling this one today. Got some good work in and feel good about moving some big weight in the weeks to come.

How tall do the blocks end up being on 18" pull? like 10 inches or so?
BTW that Cant be touched song has become one of my faves since I heard it in your squat vid the other week.

Well....speed work doesn't really hold true here. It is what was scheduled, but I need heavier work right now heading into the competition.
Those are 2x10's, so like 9.5" and I stood on a 1/2" mat. A standard bar height from the floor is 9", so you need 9" of blocks to bring it to 18".
Tis a good tune. Made famous by DanG's 500 lb bench video.
yeah I knew you'd need to tweak stuff w/ the comp approaching. They look fun for the overload factor, but I guess for PL they probably wouldn't have any carryover for me unless I really needed top end/overload work.

See....I disagree with all of that viewpoint on elevated pulls and what they train. In my opinion, a deadlift trains the deadlift. An elevated pull is less time under tension, a deficit is more. You still need to recruit hamstring, glute, low back and upper back involvement in all of them.
That said, I think that 9" blocks are a bit too much from PL, but 2-6" blocks are fine. Pulling from an elevation reduces stress on my back, so if I feel beat up, pull from blocks for a few weeks.
I think the difference in weights able to be used has more to do with the range of motion than the specific muscles targeted. This is unlike how board presses work for me in that they target more triceps and the actual lockout than the movement as a whole. Block pulls tend to help my entire deadlift, not just the lockout.
