Not enough time in my day

I am a big fan of early morning work outs, (energy through out the day, getting it over with, time with family after work). My gym opens at 5am and I am required to be at work at 6:30am (USN). Is 40 minutes enough for a 3-day full body split? Can anybody post a couple programs that is within that time limit. I really cant go over without sacrificing post workout stretching and a decent shower (got to be clean). Goals is building strength. I appreciate the info.

I did both starting strength and all pro's in about 45 minutes. If you feel you are beyond the beginner program look at some of these.

If time and strength are your main considerations, you should look into dr dardens/arthur jones high intensity training (HIT), or mike mentzers heavy duty (HD).

Dr darden advocates 2-3 full body sessions a week with 8-12 exercises done with one set to failure on each exercise. He also recommends short rest periods between exercises. A workout would be 20-30 minutes once you figure it out.

Mike mentzer recommends an ideal routine.
    Day1 chest/back
    Day2 legs
    Day3 arms/shoulders

He advocates supersets and one set to failure as well. Each workout may take 20 minutes. Just do a search for his ideal routine for the details.

Some do not agree with HIT, but the time advantage cannot be denied. Also the strength gains are usually very good.
