    Can you plank too much...

Heading back to the gym after a summer of coaching and playing cricket ready for the rugby in the winter. One of the issues I have is due to my hamstrings being too tight and my balance/core not being strong enough result in lower back pain when I run too much.

Aiming to get back in the gym four times a week, so with 10mins cross-trainer work (CV work) and stretching, would I be able to add some time planking as an addition to my standard warm up or is it over training & if so, any basic body weight exercises which will work my core as well as being suitable for a warmup?

    Thanks for any assistance,

You can do anything "too much".

Is it impeding your other workouts or recovery, to a point you are dissatisfied or seeing adverse results? If so, then it is too much.

Will doing it for a couple minutes during a warm up be too much? Most likely not.

One guy has died after falling 7 stories while planking on the edge of a building top. It is one of the stupidest hobbies I have seen yet.

i would vote no, as long as your back isn't sagging and you're able to keep a tight core. planks are kinda bad for your back if you can't keep everything straight.

Planks tend to be hard on the shoulders. "Core" work is overrated IMO. If you got DL and squats in your program you got your core work covered.
