warmup with the bar and bumper plates to get used to the lift.

probably just workout with 135 for a session or two.

I can't give you a starting number. Start with something that is challenging but not going to cause injury.
    Then add weight every week.

As you are just starting and are new to the exercise, just use the bar and learn the technique. It is a lot more important than the weight you use. When you know what to do, just raise the weights slowly and eventually you will reach your set weights. Focus on your form and don't destroy your back by trying to lift more than you can.

You should start with just the bar. Have someone that has been doing deadlift for an extended period of time watch your form. Once you get that down then start adding weight until you find something that you can hit for 8-12 reps. You wanna be struggling at the end though.

Bumper plates are ideal, but not all gyms have it.

If 135 is too much, bar + boxes to raise the bar exactly where the bar would sit if there had been 45's plates on the side.

    ---

I hurt my back massively on my first ever DL session because I didn't know the form what so ever, and I was lifting 90lb... make sure you do some reading and watch videos before you go for it.

deadlifts should be 1 to 5 reps because they're a strength, not a hyperthropy lift. I don't know many people who want a wide lower back, but I know a lot of people who want a strong lower back!

and OP, when you're deadlifting, FORM >>>>>>>>>>>>>(times infinity)>>>> WEIGHT LIFTED

I figure that is a good starting point. If he does less reps then that he will be doing more weight... and he is more likely (IMO) to let his form go if he has to struggle too much.

2x per pound of body it is considerd pretty good.

So if you were 150, deadlifting 300 would be pretty damn prime.
