I have started turning my life around 2 months ago, started lifting weights, and eating better...I take multi-vitamins, protein shake, green-tea, amino acid pills, and creatine.... I just started with cardio (to help burn fat and health) and at my local food store I was told fish oil helps with muscle recovery and stomach fat lose...etc. My question is..
should I buy fish oil?
what brand?
if the MG is around 1000, and the omega 3 is only around 300....is that a good one? (nature made bottle)

Fish oils contain the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA, that primarily aid in cardiovascular and joint health. Just because the label indicates 1000mg fish oil, it doesn't mean it is a high quality product. Look for the amount/ ratio of EPA/DHA, you want to be taking 1~2g total of these essential fatty acids daily.

At your age OP, stick to food. For those who are 18+:
You want to shoot for around 2g of EPA+DHA. This is different than total Omega 3's.
Look into Oximega Fishoil. High EPA/DHA, third party tested for purity, enteric coated and citrus flavored
Orange oximega fish oil is also buy 2 get 1 free right nowLast edited by powercage; 12-11-2011 at 05:43 AM.

Dont buy extracted fish oils, they are useless and completely rancid by the time you ingest them.
These can have no effect whatsoever, or even a negative effect on you.
They wil give you 0 benefit.
Stick to oils that are refridgerated if you want to get your omegas from an extract like unrefined flax oil or cod liver oil.
These things MUST be refridgerated or they WILL go rancid. And a complete fat will always be 100x better then an extracted incomplete fat.

So what you are claiming is that you went from eating at maintenance and not gaining/losing any weight to eating slightly more than that (what, ~90 calories/day over) and, as a direct result (no change in activity or training or calories burned) you lost 2.5 lbs a week...which is roughly the equivalent of a daily deficit of 1,100-1,200 calories...by simply consuming a handful of fish oil caps every day?

When I was at gnc people kept claiming that fish oil was beneficial for fat loss. At the time I was 235. I stop everything except multi and protein. I didn't do cardio. Keep diet the same if not worse. After a month I was down to 225. I was as surprised as you. Could it be the anaxanthin?

I wasn't necessarily keeping up with all calories but I definatley wasn't eating no where near maintenance. That wasn't the only thing positve I expierenced.
I seem to become more mentally alert, libido was higher, I had more comfort in joints. Negatives: hives around the 4th week, oily stools at times and. Fishy burps. I can't really explain the fat loss, like I said I didn't adjust my diet to loseHemavol
