Let see:
Let say you are a strenght athlete, a sprinter, a football player, a swimmer, etc. and you want to increase the volume of exercices targeting your glutes and femoral biceps, without increasing your (maybe already high) volume of erector spinae, trapezius, "middle back" ( do not know the term in english), the reverse hyper is one of the only tool available.
Hips extensions movements with very little impact on the upper body in wich you can realisticly use enough weight to effectively strenghten the glutes and femoral biceps are rare.
As for the healing part, it comes from being able to "unrack" the back at the bottom without risk of injury. In training, rounding of the lower back (losing the lordosis) is always seen as a risk of injury. When doing squats, deads, gms, etc. you have a compression on your back. This, mixed with the rounding of the lower back, can cause injury to disks. With the reverse hyper, you don't have a compression but a TRACTION of the back, therefore allowing you to round the lower back and stretch the serratus posterior inferior (mainly) and other muscles responsible of the lordosis and spinal extension.
That about sums it up.Best total: 1715 (600-415-700) raw with wraps.
A method behind madness....

I wouldn't call it bull****, but I wouldn't say it is a necessity either. Take into consideration all the strength athletes in the past era; some of the greatest lifters were manufactured just by basic barbell movements. My uncle was part of the Soviet Union weightlifting team back in the 70-80s and they did not believe in "accessory work"...they're sole belief was if you wanted to get better at the particular lift, you repeatedly practice those lifts. Also, to the post about Louie recommending the reverse hyper to everyone, well obviously hes going to recommend it he built the damn thing (Not discrediting Louie). I wouldn't call myself anywhere near advanced, but last October I was deadlifting 340lbs and squatting 300lbs...then i met Justus Owens and he started coaching me. With just basic barbell movements I progressed very far, now I plan on pulling over 600 and squatting 550 in the upcoming meet in November. History shows us that these fancy gimics and machines are no where near as valuable as some make them out to be. If you want to be great at squatting, bench pressing, and deadlifting, then do those lifts over and over and you will progress.

i like them when you actually have the real machine. i tried them at this gay powerlifting gym by my house, and the machine was basically one of those stretching tables with a pad on the top and a home made reverse hyper added to it, i lold at it and never used it. used a real one else where and i thought it was a good addition to the workout

Haha, what a statement!!! Shows how much of a dumb ass you are and your complete lack of mental competence. I used to train with one of the best benchers in the world and the amount of drugs people take FAR surpasses what they did back in the day. Of course you wouldn't know what you are talking about...because you are weak, stupid and one of those "OH I CAN DO THAT TOO IF I TOOK JUICE"....If i fed you double of what they fed the soviets, you wouldn't even make it to nationals because you my friend lack the mental drive to be great.
