I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS!
It will throw off your ROM and is just not a practical solution.
At the least get some rope and tie a belt as pictured and you could even use a few heavy water jugs if you had no weights.

I'm always surprised more people don't do dips like I do.... Put the dumbbell between your feet. I use an 80lb dumbbell on average and it's easy to hold with your feet. When I get through 6 or 7 reps, it's easy to drop and rip off another 10 or 12. I do the same exact routine for chin-ups.
Dips hit my chest like nothing else. I've always done them.. always will.

Dips are great and I love them, but I'm torn on weather to do them on chest or tricep day.

I personally prefer to do dips on tricep day rather than chest day. I don't feel like I'm able to give it my 100% on chest day when I do dips.

Here is seething to consider. Since it is a compound movement and impossible to isolate the triceps while dipping I think its better to use on a chest day, and without knowing what program you are doing, but since you have a dedicated triceps day I would (if I were using your split) do heavier triceps isolation and keep dips as either a primary or accessory movement on my chest day.

With that being said it works both ridiculously well so either option is still OK but I would lean toward having it be my 2nd or third lift on chest day...

I got really excited doing dips again after reading this... too bad my shoulder won't let me... I'll give it another try on my next arm or chest session.

I love the dip! Ever since I got a belt it has been my staple and the finishing move for chest and tricep day. Thanks for posting this.. Weighted dips are fab. for lower chest chiseling. the burn feels great.. all hail the dip.

I have always avoided dips like the plague. I do them between benches with plates on my lap as my transition from chest to triceps but never on a proper dipping station.
I am going to give them a try tomorrow when I hit my chest. Hopefully it will be like the day I discovered I could actually do wide grip pullups, in the sense that I am just making a mountain out of a molehill.
Good read, thanks for posting!

Without exception, weighted dips are my favorite exercise. Specifically, dips with 5' of 3/4" chains hanging around my neck.
Current goal: Cut down to 165 while increasing bench press to 300 by 6/30/2013. So close, I can feel it.

Started doing these and I really love them.
Started with just BW, 5 sets and 8 reps. Next week increase to 9 reps. When I got to 12, started doing them weighted back to 8 reps. They are perfect for size and strength.
They are great assistance for the Press and Bench Press, imo. My lockout is much better since doing these.
