So like the title says, I'm 6 weeks out and currently running 5/3/1. Should I just continue with 5/3/1 or should I mix my training up?

I decided to do a raw meet only about a month out while running 5/3/1 and here's what I did;
Two weeks out; 5/3/1 (hit my last set, the "1" set for a double)
Ten days out; opener for dl
One week out; openers only for bench and squat
Meet week: light treadmill work, and foam rolling
The last two weeks out I dropped the assistance and lowered the conditioning.
Keep in mind, this differs greatly from what Wendler recommends in 5/3/1 for pl.

If it was me on your 5/3/1 I'd run
One more cycle deload on week 4 no deadlift
1/2 sets on squat and bench
Week 5
M
4-6 sets of heavy rows (your choice) for back
W
3-4 80% sets of 3 working up to a double on bench
TH
FRI
SAT OFF
SUN Work up to openers
Week of meet cardio up to 4 days easy-moderate(weight control)
That's similar to what I'm using for the 10th, raw. Good luck.

Cardio is easier on your mind and body than pulling it together through water depletion and sauna. I've done that in the past.
I think its better to be fully hydrated and slightly under day before at the weigh in. Then eat all night.
It also depends if you gain weight easily when you don't train which I do, plus that GPP helps your body heal up better than sitting around doing nothing. Still it is optional if the water depletion/sauna thing works for you I'd stay with it.Last edited by 300lb10yrs; 09-05-2011 at 05:55 PM.

I disagree. If you're doing enough cardio to drop weight, it is absolutely going to affect you come meet day.
A little bit of active recovery is one thing, but I wouldn't recommend anything where you're even really going to break a sweat unless absolutely necessary, and even then, cut that a few days out.
Water manipulation is a much easier and less taxing way to cut if you need to. Saunas are a last resort, but still better than cardio (especially if you're not used to cardio).314/231/352/881@123
