Hey guys, labor day is coming up so Summer is officially coming to and end (hard to believe when it's been 100+ degrees for like 90 days straight here).
Now that the motivation for bikini season is gone and the NFSC has come and gone, I figured now would be a cool time to have another transformation contest here at the Nutrition forum.
The NFSC was a great idea..but as we saw, the amount of people who actually finished was pretty awful. I think the problem is that not a lot of people have the attention span to keep up with a contest for more than a few weeks..so here's my solution:
Tournament style competition. Two categories, bulking and cutting (if we have enough we will separate men and women, but we will see). When we have all the competitors, I'll make two separate brackets and divide you all up so you are essentially competing against one other member for 4-5 weeks. The person who makes the best progress moves on, until we end with a champion.
I think this style of comp will have better results than a single "everyone vs everyone for 16 weeks contest". If you have a single opponent, the "rivalry" effect will most likely drive you to do better..no one likes losing and there's no hiding the fact that someone did better than you one v. one. Also, the shorter 4 or 5 weeks per round will keep you interested since you probably won't forget about it. Yeah, I know 4 weeks isn't a lot of time to see any changes, especially for bulkers, but that's why you have no time to waste.
Let me know if you're in. If there's a good turnout I'll start putting the plan into motion. Also give some suggestions if you have them..but in theory im really liking this style of competition.

I like the idea. Sounds like it'll be "March-Madness'esque". My current plan has me eating at maintenance until about mid-September (just to determine if that's my "true" maintenance. - been cutting for seven months...so I'm assuming it'll be close to accurate), near the end of September, I'm beginning my bulk. If my plan falls within your tournament schedule/structure, I'd be happy to join. I'm already super motivated at the gym, but another factor in the equation...can't hurt! Great idea!! Will be checking back.

I think in a month there can be some subtle, yet noticeable changes...which reenforces the need to stay on track. In total the entire contest could run 3-4 months or so, depending on the turnout. Each "bracket" would last a month..you would be going against that single person for a month, and if you move on then you go against someone else.
Pairing will just be random..I'll pull names out of a hat or something.Transformation Journal:

The results would be cumulative, so the first round will have your change in 4 weeks judged, and the next round would be 4 weeks plus your previous 4 weeks...so 8 total weeks judged and it'll get easier to see change. Maybe the first round could be 6 weeks, then the other rounds shorter.

or you could set up the bracket, let everyone do their thing for say 3 months, pics posted and then have a few days of voting for each round so

sounds like an idea! I'm IN if this happens.
this type of tournament style competition can could definitely keep competitors more motivated, when they know exactly who they're competing against and how his competitor's progressing.
Playoff tree, winner moves on and losers can compete against others?
For example, group A winner competes against group B winner, and losers of the two groups face elimination challenge.IIFYM - Try to get most of your macros from whole foods. They are high in micronutrients and are needed to maintain overall health

In for muscle gain. Let's do some bracketology or something.
My guilty pleasure: excessive cardio.
Progress towards the 1000 lb club: 945/1000
Bulking until I hit 1000. I don't care if it takes a 40 pound weight gain. No more pussyfooting around.

Finally at a computer..so I'll try and get to all questions/comments now
March Madness is a very good comparison, kind of what I had in mind when making this up. If people show enough interest, it may start sometime in the next 2 weeks.
4 weeks should be enough time for people who work their ass off to see some small changes when bulking..which is what you plan on doing, right?
Great! Bulking or cutting? I'll start making a list of those interested
Huh? People start bulking/cutting at different times...most of us don't follow a strict schedule, but rather go on current goals. I'm weeks into my cut as well, but I still plan on competing.
Bulk or cut? I'm guessing bulk..I remember your cut progress thread, great results man! You should be a tough competitor.
For sure! Bulk or cut?
Yeah dude..I'm 20 years old, I dont want to compete with a bunch of fuking teens.
Jking, of course bro. Everyone is welcome!
Bulk or cut?
But that would bring up the same ADD problems that we run in with every other contest. After a month or so, excitement dies down and people give up/stop competing. This way, theres a change every month or so to keep the fire alive.
Yeah, a "consolation" bracket would definitely be there so everyone can compete as long as they want basically.
DTC or DTB?
Will do!
For sure...that might end up being the plan.
Woohoo...finally got a female in on this. Even if you're the only one..I think you'd hold your own against the males
Thats actually my biggest concern..I'll address this later
I hope so! Would be great to have you in
Great! Bulk or cut?
We should have some rep betting on the brackets lol. I think that would be fun!Transformation Journal:

Even with my measly reps? Haha, you ought to figure out a method to determine seeding and everything.

Good turnout of people so far! Here is some thing I want to address though..lemme know what you guys think:
My biggest concern right now is people wanting to switch goals. They may cut for the first round..but then want to bulk. Timing is a big issue..and if the tournament runs 3-4 months, there will be a lot of people switching gears mid-contest. Any ideas on how to solve this? I'd be okay with letting people switch sides after each round..but then there might be an uneven # of competitors and the bracket can mess up, and their "overall progress" will be skewed. Another possible solution is having everyone in the same bracket, and not dividing bulking or cutting..but we all know cutters can show quicker progress...
Also, here is a list of people I've got signed up so far so we can have a rough #:

Rep betting is against the rules though, was semi joking lol. But I still think its fun to guess who will be the winner..gives the underdog more motivation as well.
No seeding..that kind of says some people can make better progress than others, and I don't believe that.Transformation Journal:
