    Do muscles only grow during deep sleep? (srs)

    Does muscle growth only take place during REM sleep or does it not matter? There's certain medication that I take that affects REM sleep and I wonder if this has any effect on my growth.

    i get 3-4 hours of sleep a day sometimes and i am still shredded and big as fuk.. u jelly?

    protein synthesis happens when your body is at rest and above caloric maintenance. you hit an anabolic period an example after your post workout meal. after you eat a big meal and sit on the computer or the couch or whatever you are building muscle. you don't need rem sleep, though it helps.

    There is some evidence that repairs still happen during the day but the most beneficial repair is REM sleep. Depending on much REM sleep you are doing you may want to consider having more rest days to recover.

    I would assume so. Whenever i drink I'm always very sore the next day. When you consume alcohol you only get stage 1 and 2 sleep with is not REM sleep.

    Sleep dramatically impacts your entire body, and it's during sleep that your body recovers from exercise, repairs itself and grows new muscle tissue. Your body maximizes its output of growth hormone during sleep, and it is for this reason that sleep is anabolic.

    At the same time, sleeping also replenishes critical neurotransmitters (specialized chemicals) that you need to bodybuild effectively and safely. These neurotransmitters include dopamine, adrenalin, noradrenalin, acetylcholine and more. These chemicals are responsible for focus, attention, motivation, overall energy levels and muscular contractions. These chemicals are depleted by hard training and everyday activities. Only sleeping allows your body to repair itself and replenish the chemicals that are needed for you to get best results.

    Growth hormone levels are at its highest while you are asleep. I don't know how REM connects to that relationship, but muscle growth for sure isn't directly connected to sleep.

    work+ full time student + allot of other ****. sleep is very over-rated imo. it is only really important if you are cutting imo. 3-4 hours of sleep has worked for me.

    if i am tired or feel to lazy to workout i'll just take some 1,3 dimethylamylamine + caffeine to wake me up.

    well that makes alot more sense when u got alot of cals over main your body can repair much easier..and doesn need asmuch sleep

    NREM is non-rapid eye, repairs body, muscle tissue, physical repair....
    Most growth occurs in NREM,
    but to answer op:
    no, muscle does also repair throughout the day, but sleep is the main period.
