I'll second the EatSmart Precision Pro. I have two (one at home, one at the office), and did a few side-by-side comparisons - they both matched up to the gram, on every food I weighed. They also got the weights correct on stuff I had exact weights for in advance. So overall, they've been very consistent and accurate.

I bought an Ozeri bath scale off Amazon, and they e-mailed me a couple days later saying they would send me a free kitchen scale if I put up a review. So I wrote the review (the bath scale works great so I had no problem giving it a good review) and my kitchen scale came in today.

Ended up paying about $15 and got a $50 bath scale and $40 kitchen scale.

I bought a EatSmart Precision Pro a while back. At first it worked great, but sometimes the tare function acts funny... It sometimes starts randomly going negative with the weight. Not sure if I just got a lemon or what, but everybody else seems to love theirs. I'm not sure if I trust the measurements anymore on mine.

I'm an avid cook and a lover of all kinds of kitchen gadgets, and I just recently started using kitchen scales for all sorts of things. The Gurin Touch Professional Digital Kitchen Scale is by far my favorite kitchen scale that I own. It's available on Amazon.

Hello, it's hard to give an answer. It depends on your needs.
    Mechanical or electronic?
Mechanical kitchen scales are perfect for people who don't need to know the absolutely exact weight of the product. Mechanical scales are cheaper than electronic, they are durable and don't need a source of power, but they lose in precision.Electronic scales will be useful for people for whom accuracy is important. Electronic scales are a bit more expensive mechanical. They are more accurate, have a detailed gradation of the weight can have additional features, different original design, but need a power source and require careful handling.
    Flat or bowl?
By design, the scales are divided into flat and bowl. Mechanical scales typically include a platform or bowl with high sides. The bowl will be useful to Housewives who bake often. It's good if the scales will be removable. If electronic scales are equipped with a bowl and a zero function, it will simplify the preparation of the pastry. After laying of each ingredient, you can zero the scales and add the following without having to add the weight. Also, you can weigh the products in packages and large foods that would not fit in the scales on the scales with a flat platform.
    Scale and lift capacity
The more detailed the scale, the more accurate you can determine the weight. There is a kitchen scale with high precision, which is capable of counting tenths of a gram. As for the lift capacity, 5 kg – standard weight, which can weigh the device. If you take scales for counting calories, it will be enough a three-kilogram scale.
    Additional features
Electronic scales may have a fairly wide range of options. The number of options affects the price of the goods. The already mentioned function "zeroing" will help you easily deduct the weight of containers or mix the ingredients directly on the scale. Some scales can convert grams and kilograms to ounces and pounds, and vice versa. Some models have built-in clock or timer. There are models that can calculate the number of calories in the weighed product. Such scales models are already minicomputers on your kitchen table. They usually have a coded list of products. After entering the code, the scale will automatically give you the calories and nutritional value bread units. It's useful when scales are equipped with a memory, so you can easily view statistics of your diet for the past period of time. Some scales can determine fluid volume. This feature is useful to those involved in home preservation.
