You won't make gains until you set aside your stupid fuking ego's. (pic + truth ITT)

If you train for strength or Powerlifting, this isn't the thread for you but feel free to contribute without a bias if you can.

There's far too many people who cannot get out of the way of their own ego. What do I mean by this?

If you're walking into the gym and going right to the exercise you can move the most weight on and you're actually conscious of how other people in the gym perceive your strength then you're doing yourself a disservice.

Lets take a chest day for example. The majority of gym-goers are going to walk into the gym and attempt to move around some 'heavy' weight on barbell or dumbbells and continue to move up in weight beyond what they can really control, squeeze, and concentrate on a mind-muscle connection. At this point you're no longer maximizing the recruitment of your chest and you're letting other muscle groups, momentum, or other structures play a larger role.

I get a good chuckle out of the guys who walk in with their ILS sit on a flat bench and then bounce 315 off their chest or half rep it yet still have a bird chest and noodle arms. Don't let that be you.

I don't even bother with barbell or dumbbells 90% of the time - machines, cables, or smith with good volume and intensity techniques = mind blowing chest workouts for example.

All these miscers who bitch and moan about what is/isn't possible naturally and have become self deprecating about their own progress are likely those I'm referring to with this post.

    Good post OP, agreed.

I like to hit some heavy bench sometimes, but 90% of the time I work dumbbells/isolation movements with super controlled form, stretching the pecs and contracting hard.

Agreed, ego's should be kept in the locker room.

I suggest an ego crushing exercise:
    - pick the lightest dumbells, preferably the pink ones
    - move to the center of the gym
    - pretend the pink dumbells are really heavy and let everyone stare at you

Funny because I didn't say anything about slow reps or specifically going light. What I did point out are techniques people use to reduce the overall recruitment of muscles.

My old favorite chest lift was incline smith machine.

Never put much weight on it maybe two 45's and two 25's, but the slow movement and contraction gave me a huge pump.
"Come over here, then," I said. He responded with, "You come over here.'I didn't hesitate. I got up and walked over to the foot of his bed.

    But who was warmup sets?

Agreed OP. I don't understand it when people walk in the gym and proceed to do the following on any exercise:

    90% for 2 reps
    95% for 1 rep
    100% for 1/2 rep
    110% no reps
    115% no reps

Absolute truth. Not to mention taking a 12 minute breaking walking around and chugging protein between sets.

I have a gym membership too but homegym crew. I bench when I want not when some ******* decides his 96 minute session on the bench is over.

If you put 4 plates on the bar and just walk around the bench people will think you can lift that without actually having to lift it

For naturals there needs to be a balance between strength and contractions.

My form is pretty much perfect on everything and so are my contractions but I do prefer to start with a heavier compound movement at every session. After that I do machines, cables, etc.

    Best of both worlds.

Lets hear the specifics of this routine
Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way.

Thanks for the kind words brah.

I ****ed up my rotator coughs in my uni gym trying to keep up with my friends on the bench press when they were clearly more advanced and had lifted since HS.
