Is a UPS PACKAGE HANDLER job really that hard?

I heard terror stories about dish washing jobs, I tried it myself and it was actually fun. I was wondering the the package handler job is as horrible as people say it is? I also heard you gotta stack boxes 10 feet high lolwut? how am I supposed to do that? do they have ladders or do I have to play basketball with boxes?

haha i worked both as a dishwasher and ups package handler(back to back actually)

ups package handler is **** hours, manual labour and **** pay, no advancement chance at all(within the first 5-7 years lmao). it's not that hard, most packages are around 20lbs, and you'll occasionally have to lift boxes weighing 130lbs. the thing that kills it is UNION FEES(got around 70-80 taken away my first pay check), and that it's repetitive and you'll find yourself watching the clock(very very ****ty work environment). everyone smokes weed. i worked errthing there; scanner, handler, packages that didn't pass(i think it's called ODC or some****).
the ****tiest part of the warehouse is unloading the trailers(not the 5 tons), then it's either scanner or package handler. scanner you do nothing for 4 hours straight but scan boxes, and you have to get each one(if u miss it and it's not cleared the warehouse is fined around 5k). package handler you unload trailers with a buddy. which isn't bad, usually you can unload with the same guy everyday, so it can create a friendship and make it less suckish.
you'll meet some crooks and crackheads so watch for that lmao

our warehouse gave pizza every 2-3 weeks.

tip: do not ever try to go under the belt while it's working. i did and my back touched it, still have scar

I was a package handler at fedex a few years back during college. I didn't enjoy it that much...

I was part time with a 3.5 HR shift from 3:30 to 6 or some sh.it like that. Fulltime was 7 hours

I was on load side so I loaded trailers. Those drop frame ones that are usually hauled as a double on the highway.

    Loud as sh.it

right before christmas sucked huge co.ck so much shi.t moving through the system.

I could be more specific if you want

edit. the highest I had to stack was whatever the height of a full size 53' trailer is. It was like 9 ft. maybe? They gave me some rickety azz stepstool to climb on a hoist up 50# boxes of office paper endlessly

There's a reason turn over rate is high. most people are teens or college kids or just dudes looking for some extra cash for a while.

Depends on the type of shift you get at Fed-Ex as a package handler, theres 2 shifts

preload-which starts at 3am-8:30 am and the outbound shift-which starts at 5:30pm-10:20pm
different types of jobs as a "package handler" are van loading, splitting, unloading, incompatibles(huge fuking boxes that cant go through the system or duffel bags)

starting pay is 10.65/hr but you get a 10 cent raise every 2-3 months, i got promoted so i get more then that, its very fast pace physcial labor but its a good job for me cuz im going to college and i get a paycheck every friday

Aww fuk that noise, I can more than that per hour just working for my parent's company, similar labor but when I work I'm higher up than most of the other workers in the company and it goes at my own personal pace, which I don't mind dragging out a wee bit to stretch out the hours. Yes, slacking slightly to take moar money from my parents. I aint even regretting it.

Luckily I do not work for them and as of later this week I will not be working at my current job either. A local guy threw a job offer my way selling engines (crate engines and racing engines) dealing with calls and sh.it all day, something like $15 an hour, do want, so I may just go look into that instead

It's horrible at first but once you get used to it, it's not that bad. I was a loader and I'd pick up about 1200-1600 packages a night, peak season was double that (Christmas time). Packages weigh anywhere from 1-70lb that come in your trailer, then they bring around "irregs" which are 70+lb packages (unsafe to send down belt) heaviest one I've gotten was like 200lbs. Yes **** hours but great if you have another job/school. Okay pay, you start around 9/hr with regular raises.

Yes **** hours but great if you have another job/school. Okay pay, you start around 9/hr with regular raises.

ups package handler is **** hours, manual labour and **** pay, no advancement chance at all(within the first 5-7 years lmao). it's not that hard, most packages are around 20lbs, and you'll occasionally have to lift boxes weighing 130lbs. the thing that kills it is UNION FEES(got around 70-80 taken away my first pay check), and that it's repetitive and you'll find yourself watching the clock(very very ****ty work environment). everyone smokes weed. i worked errthing there; scanner, handler, packages that didn't pass(i think it's called ODC or some****).
the ****tiest part of the warehouse is unloading the trailers(not the 5 tons), then it's either scanner or package handler. scanner you do nothing for 4 hours straight but scan boxes, and you have to get each one(if u miss it and it's not cleared the warehouse is fined around 5k). package handler you unload trailers with a buddy. which isn't bad, usually you can unload with the same guy everyday, so it can create a friendship and make it less suckish.
you'll meet some crooks and crackheads so watch for that lmao

our warehouse gave pizza every 2-3 weeks.

tip: do not ever try to go under the belt while it's working. i did and my back touched it, still have scar

Yea. Preload is 3-8am, then Noonday 12-5pm, Twilight 5-10pm, and we have a Midnight sort 11pm-3am. You got us on the scanners though, we just now got scanners that tell you if the package goes or not.

Well, I had the tour today and it was some hardcore **** lmao. First we walked through a bridge made out of those bars where you can see through, so every time I looked down I remembered final destination xD

Then they kept telling us how hard it was and that we had to stay there for a year, it was like selling your soul or something lol

It is kinda like selling your soul. Not sure how Fed Ex is but with UPS after you get that free health/dental/vision/life/prescription/dismemberment insurance (strong wtf but it's included) it's hard to leave.
