Congrats on the journey being under way. Alot of people talk about wanting to be successful but aren't willing to do what's necessary when it gets right down to it. Way to take the road less traveled and make your own path.
I will be down in Melbourne, Australia later this year and I know its a long shot but if you are going to be traveling at all it would be cool to run in to you on the other side and underneath the world, lol.

Awesome stuff I'm sure you found it but you missed the decimal point in the bit about 500kcal/day deficit leading to .5kg per week weight loss.
BTW I'm loving the fact that all this is metric now.
Any plans on coming to Australia while you are down on this side of the earth? And I remember you saying it in the vid with Ian & Alan, but how long are you in NZ for?
Also, a question re the fat/carb amounts. Have you ever had a case where someone didn't have any libido/hormonal issues but seemed to have slightly declining gym performances despite having a lower than 20% of cals fat amount and approximately 3g/kg of carb intake?Last edited by jzpowahz; 11-26-2012 at 05:12 PM.

Ive been reading through this thread and you definitely put in a lot of hard work to get to where you are now. I've also seen your video on UD2. Let me preface my question saying I am not the type that is drawn to "complex" diets since I've dieted from 17-11% twice using a normal 400-500 calorie deficit (and eating whatever I want with IIFYM *high protein of course*), I want a diet that can get me a good amount of fat loss and back to bulking ASAP.
My question is about a 3dmj article of yours. http://www.3dmusclejourney.com/2010-05qa.php it was on how to switch from bulking to cutting.
How do you go about your mini cuts (1-4 week aggressive cuts)? Like how many lbs do you aim to lose per week/how big of a deficit and how do you ensure there is no muscle loss during the mini cut?
I just started a muscle gaining phase at 12% and will stop once I reach 15-16%. At that point I want to get to 10-12% again as fast as possible (without losing muscle) so I can bulk again ASAP. Like how do your mini cuts differ from Lyle McDonald's Rapid Fatloss Diet (RFL) where he has people eat a very low carb/extremely high protein diet to spare muscle loss and has them lose 3+lbs of fat per week (for only 2 weeks)?
In your article you mention that a lifter can go right back to bulking calories after a 2-4 week aggressive cut. Is this a lot less aggressive/calorie restricted than the RFL diet? Because Lyle tells lifters to eat at maintenance for 1-2 weeks right after a 12-14 day extreme diet in order to prevent the quick fat gain (from metabolic slowdown) that you describe in the "regular cut" part of your article.
Thanks and happy holidays in NZ!Last edited by JRemix; 12-29-2012 at 10:09 AM.

Just watched the video, thanks. If Berto suggests a 10 cal/lb deficit and my maintenance is 2400...@ 135lbs (what I'll probably be at the end of my bulk) that's 10x135 which would have me eating 1350 calories a day during the mini cut. That would prob net me a 7-8lb fat loss in 4 weeks (pretty sweet). I am just wondering if they have any protocols they follow to prevent muscle loss on these mini cuts.
Also how much is volume/frequency scaled back for training during these aggressive mini cuts? I know that volume can be reduced a lot as long as weight on the bar (intensity) stays the same as offseason. And how do you incorporate refeeds/free meals on such a mini cut?
Got a ton of information from the video. I am guessing they keep protein much higher during these assertive cuts (to spare muscle loss), like at 1.4-1.5g per lb. I'll definitely watch their lean bulking videos after this.Last edited by JRemix; 12-30-2012 at 09:02 PM.

Summer in Auckland is beuatiful!
Do plan on coming to Australia at some point in the 4 years I'm in NZ, no hard plans yet. And I'm not sure I get your question, but a caloric deficit and weight loss at all can create some declining gym performance in and of itself depending on the person, length, extent etc.
looks like my work here is done lol
BTW sorry for never updating, probably won't start happening frequently to be honest, BUT ran 3 months of a modded 531 BBB setup, more volume up top, total is probably right around 600kg, maybe 12% bf at 205lbs or so, looking my best to date, and currently running sheiko CMS with some physique maintenance stuff in there and planning on doing a series of raw pling meets here in NZ
