Should your dumb bell bench press be the same as your barbell bench?

Hypothetically speaking, if you could barbell bench press 150 lbs flat, should you be able to dumbbell bench a 75 lb dumbbell in each hand?

no, most people cannot db press as much as they bb press. db uses more stabilizer muscles and bb press is more of a compound movement...hence more weight can be pushed.

How exactly can barbell bench press be more of a compound movement than Dumbbell bench press? The amount of broscience in this thread is phenominal!

i feel stronger on the db's and feel they give the chest more development. they are both compound movements unless your doing one arm at a time.

Most of the time bb will be larger than db.

But for me, on shoulder press, my db weight total is larger than bb. Go figure. I know its a different move, but I still think I'm weird for having it be this way. Point is it doesn't matter anyway.

well, check it, when your barbell pressing your hands are locked in place with one another, which limits movement, and therefore reduces the amount of muscles used for stabilization, while the dumbbells are separate pieces therefore resulting in the opposite.

you'll find this isn't true for PULL exercises since no stabilization is needed for pulling.

I'll bench like 250, and dumbbell press the 85's with the same effort on each.
