You owe $98 and kept the $1. Why do you add your $1? There is no missing dollar. If you took back the $2 you gave your parents, it'd total $100 with your $3 in your possession.

Didn't read replies but retarded thread is retarded. In the last sentence, you added the 49 you owe your mom with the 49 you owe your dad to the 1 dollar you have left over and got 99... The 98 dollars were part of your debt but the 1 dollar is your asset, it's money that you have on you, not that you owe... Ergo, it should be 49+49-1=97 dollars and that is the exact amount that your purchase cost...
