Arnold's chest is one of the best, and was definitely one of the biggest, but to answer your question of whether it has been surpassed in shear mass and size, I'll say yes. Overall bodybuilders have gotten bigger in all aspects, guys a half foot shorter like Branch (speaking of huge chests) outweighing him with lean mass. I think the problem is that it's harder to see because the proportions of today's top pros are different than back then. Legs have gotten bigger, backs have gotten thicker, things that make a huge chest seem more in line with other bodyparts, rather than overemphasize it like in the 70's. One obvious contributor to the illusion is the vacuum pose. Arnold could do it very well and bringing in that waistline enhances the visual of his chest. Today's pros not only can't do a vacuum, but having a distended belly and gut takes away from the proportions. Except for Ronnie, his chest is from another planet, nothing was gonna detract from that.

Kai greene definitely has the best everything ever out of everything on earth. best proportions and musclemass and conditioning. all that plus his fantastic artistic style makes his chest the best ever ever ever ever lolz! i won't listen to reason!!!!!
(not srs, obvious mockery)
i love Big Ron. now his chest is just impressive and i think it is absolutely magnificent.
is arnold's chest the biggest? probably for his frame and such talking about sheer muscle mass held in the pectorals.
Now: Enjoy some pics of Big Ron

I've asked this before and never had a response.
But if we all agree that Arnold's chest peaked in '74 at 57.25inches... And we all agree that Ronnie Coleman (and most, if not all of the other guys mentioned) have much thicker backs... And Ronnie peaked at 59 inches... Then how is it that his chest alone is not at least on par with Ronnie's?

Classic thread, but no. nobody has as impressive of a chest, matched with a small waist as arnold. Nobody, as much as we want to hear something different. And DEFINITELY not phil heath for whomever said that

as a bb'er overall yes, but im not convinced he surpassed his chest. in most of these comparisons the lesser conditioning the 70s guys had is what is holding back us seeing arnold's chest as it really would have compared with equal conditioning of late 80s & beyond, dont forget the guys will appear bigger the less fat & water they hold.

Arnold sure had a great chest, i don't think he has a 'bigger chest' than guys like Ronnie Coleman. Arnold's chest is just really well developped to the rest of his body, making it look even bigger. He also has a really big ribcage which helps in creating the illusion of 'the biggest chest'.
He knew how to show off his chest in the side bicep pose REALLY well.

Chest size: Ronnie probably edges out Arnold here
Chest shape: Slight advantage to Arnold IMO, but it is debatable
Separation: Arnold
Who's chest looks better on their body: Arnold, his chest with his super tight waist, looks insane in some shots
Who's chest is more impressive considering the supplementation available: Arnold easily.
I can see the case being made in terms of sheer size Ronnie being bigger, but Arnold takes the other categories. Some pics
