Why are they so many world records in powerlifting?

This is one thing I can't stand...everytime I look at a certain website that posts powerlifting news, it seems every week someone sets a new world record. If Mr X is this kind of shirt in this state in this association and is a fireman makes a lift, why is that different? There should be 2 records for each weight class, that's it.(to not get into raw vs geared debate)

imo, theres a lot of different factors. its mostly about strength but gear plays a big part, if 2 men have equal strength, speed, and explosiveness but the other man has better gear the 1st guy could set a world record, the 2nd with better gear could probably set a new one. personally i wanna stay raw.

For world records, I just look at powerlifting watch because they take the records from every federation.
    I don't care.

I was all set and had my plan to get a state record in the "non-married, right handed, bearded, truck driver" class but then I bought a car instead. So now its back to the drawing board.

what about age? i consider that one of the most important factors.
    PR's: 365 | 280 | 500 = 1145 lbs

bearded could be legit, it's a well known fact that a beard adds on at least 50 lbs to your total

The answer is simple. Money. You want the record you got to pay the entry fee.

It is also an enticement to get someone to compete, which in the end is a good thing.

pretty much. I remember seeing this guy at meets and somehow he would enter like 5 different divisions. He was a great guy and a great lifter. So he won everything in sight and at the medal ceremony they just called his name over and over. It was impressive lifting but all I could think about was how much money ol' boy spent to enter all those classes.

If I remember correctly it was in the AAU, but it could have been usapl. I used to see him at different feds meets.

Anyway, he was in like Open, masters, probably bench only, then they actually have the whole different division of "lifetime drug free" which is sort of interesting, lol.
