I'm making a friend or two compete with me in June. And trying to drag at least 1 friend along who wont be competing to help keep my nerves in order and keep me focused.

im in. did same contest last year. it was my first rodeo. all the lifters there were very helpful and it was an intense atmosphere. the team thing is just if you had a group that wanted to compete as a team. my suggestion is to just compete in your weight class and age bracket, then you may win a trophy by default. like me.

i looked everywhere locally for ammonia tabs couple days before last meet and couldn't find them. where you get them?

It's not bad. I was nervous as **** the first time I used it. It's awesome focus for 10-30 seconds depending on how brave you are.
I've got 2 boxes at home. Haven't used any in a while, mainly just use it for heavy singles, because I get a headache after.

elitefts.com or someone at the meet might sell you one or two haha.
they're like 4 bucks for a 10 pack but you'll spend more than that shipping them, so make sure you've got other stuff you need.

Yeah..I use a few tabs a week. I'm cheap so they last longer if you get a twist off pill bottle and keep them in there.

You get more than one sniff off of them

Elite is the best place but you'll more than likely end up getting some from me in the mail.

i just don't want someone that weighs between 199-220 that is between the ages of 35-39 that can lift more than me to get in it. i have a title to defend and a state record to uphold. if you know anyone that fits that bill, please discourage them from entering.

2 of my favorite topics in here: Gear and ammonia.

Gear:
First of all, gear is not some magic piece of clothing that you put on and it magically puts 200lbs on your lifts, and all you have to do is lock a weight out. This misconception started because of the way powerlifters talk imo. We talk about gear having pop, stopping power, rebound, support, ect and people hear these words and think of them as magical powers of the material/design of the gear. I started out competing RAW and had a lot of the same misconceptions that a lot of people have. Almost all of what I thought I knew about gear was destroyed the first time I tried out a bench shirt. Guess how much the shirt added to my bench? 0lbs. Why? Because I couldn't touch anything, my technique was horrid. Equipment adds a quality to lifting that is hard to explain. You know how important technique is lifting raw, in gear its even more important (I know from first hand experience.) If you mess up even a little bit it becomes a missed lift (or worse.) Look at it this way, a lifter squatting 800lbs in a suit (or suit+briefs) isn't just locking out 800lbs, he has to get that 800lbs to depth and sit back perfectly in order to get the support from the suit, while making sure his knees are out (because if they come in, he could end up with a broken leg), and thats not even mentioning the stuff you need to do while squatting anyway(staying tight, elbows down, head up, chest up ect) Basically my point is that lifting with gear is a skill that needs to be learned over weeks, months, and even years, and anyone who says otherwise has never lifted with it. /rant

I have only done 1 competition (NAS Hoosier Strength Challenge in June of 2011). I train with Pro strongman Chad Coy in Kokomo, IN at Club Fitness24. I plan to compete in many amatur events this spring and summer in the Midwest. My log is BigLanks Powerlifting Ownage, eventhough I do strongman (is there a way to change the title?). talk to you all soon.
