    Calories burned during weight lifting

    About how many calories does the average, hour-long weight lifting session burn? I'd imagine that, although it isn't cardio, it still burns a fair few. I'm eating 1200 calories a day, but not counting weight lifting calories as I don't have a clue how to calculate them. I work out until failure on most sets, with a 1 or 2 minute rest between sets. How do you count weight lifting calories?

    Probably burn 300-500, What are your goals? weight? height? ect. You Cals seem very low!

    Depends on intensity but yeah varies from 300-500. You are eating way too little calories though man, even if you are trying to lose fat, you may be putting your body in starvation mode which will cause it to hang on to fat even more!

    I'm currently cutting, wanting to get to 10 - 12% bodyfat before I begin another bulk. I'm 5ft 11", 143 lbs. I worked out my maintenance to be 2000 cals per day, so I'm eating at a 800 calorie deficit.*

    I would do this for max result since i personally think 1200 calories is way too little.

    Eat 5 times a day, every 2.5 hours at 300 calories a meal.

    I read that 1000 calories is starvation level for an adult, I think you should eat more OP. Also, the question is hard to answer. Starting strength can take an hour, but I doubt that it burns as many calories as a high volume workout routine with short rest between sets and techniques like supersets, dropsets etc

    you should not be working to failure every single time you lift, as this will take an enormous toll on your central nervous system very quickly, especially since you're consuming an absurdly low amount of cals. if you're 5'11, there's no way that's the correct number.

    I'm pretty sure I've got the calculations right, but could someone ensure this by using my stats to calculate how much I should be eating per day to lose weight? I'm 65 kg (143 lbs), male. An 800 calorie deficit should be okay, shouldn't it? Also, my weight loss has been going well so far.

    Because seeing as I haven't been including weight lifting calories, the weight loss may not be legitimate (I may be starving myself) if my calories per day are too low. That's why I originally asked about weight lifting calories burned * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *@UngeneticAzn, I have too much fat for my liking - I want to get leaner before I bulk. I'm not entirely sure of my BF%, but it's not at that 10 - 12% yet, judging by others pictures. I do a push - pull routine, 3 day split.

    Dude, if your weight is going down with this low amount of calories, your muscles are evaporating too. You will eventually become lean but bones are not what you aim for. Please recalculate your maintenance, my stats are almost similar to yours and i have a maintenance of 2600 and 2700 based on two different formulas, and i guess it's somewhat average of two (activity factor was 1.4). You should also only cut your calories no more than by 20%

    Im 5'11 and 160 and my BMI is right in the middle so theres no way that 143 is also. Also, you should eat more than 1200, you will put your body into starvation mode and you won't lose the fat

    edit: at 160, my maintenance is somewhere around 3300-3500

    This. I weigh a few pounds higher than nain, and I'm 5 inches shorter. My bulk calories are 2.8k, so I'd imagine his maintenance of 2.6 or 2.7k is correct for his height/weight. Just please listen to us all here and increase your cals before we find you in the eating disorder thread.

    The ACSM recommends cutting your diet by 500 calories and burning an extra 200-300 per day. This puts you at your 800 deficit. Furthermore any pace of weight loss higher than 2 lbs a week is binge dieting. Binge dieting will not last, will discourage you, and ultimately hurt you. Your body's transformation is a marathon, not a sprint. If you would like a solid body, you have to build it methodically. Brick. By. Brick.
    So statistically speaking you are, because of your working out and your 800 nutrition deficit, at a 1300 calorie deficit. This is binge dieting.
    Additionally, bulking is like waxing a car. You bulk, then you rip, you bulk, then you rip. This process continues until you're satisfied.
    It's called periodized training. Start bulking now, then if you're still not satisfied, go through a cutting phase.
    Approaching your regiment from this 'seasonal' point of view will enhance your body's adaptation, prevent plateaus, and give you a clearer view of your body.

    bro im like 5'11-6 ft and im 178 lbs. you need to bulk man, you dont look as fat as you think. need like at least 40 lbs to get to a decent, alright to cut, weight or else your just see-sawing your weight for no reason. that's probably 8-12 months of weight gain, so quite some time and might not be enough to look big.

    edit: worked out your basic maintenance level w/some exercise as 2300 calories. ur crash cutting mayne; eat!
