How many of you find it hard not gym everyday?

Hey guys, just wondering if you feel like I do when you have a rest day?

I feel quite slack and like I'm cheating myself. I do a five day split for lifting with 20-30min running post workout, never missing any of those days, but on the 2 non lifting days (Thurs+Sun) I find often myself heading to the gym and doing cardio and extra weights.*

For scheduling purposes, I have pretty much resigned to never not go again, if avoidable. Due to school upcoming, I get up at 4:30 and am at the gym by 5. I find that if I miss a single day, I want to sleep.. Which messes up my schedule for like a week.

You know, even if you're just having that normal tiredness, you won't feel it in the middle of something that you enjoy .

Rest days make me feel a bit down. I had to eat less to make out for the non-cals burning activity and I seem to always goes over my maintenance

Soreness/tiredness and recovery are not the same things. I squat 3x a week and am rarely sore. That doesn't mean I could go into the gym the next day, put 195 on my back and go to town.

Don't shoot the messenger . Quote came from a competitive female bb'er: http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/kimm4/

A lot of fitness models claim to be on bodypart splits, in which case of course they can go in that often. If I have a dedicated "biceps day" it's not like my body's gonna need a whole lot of recovery time And these are the same people who are promoting 5-6 meals per day, eating every 3 hours to rev your metabolism, fat burners, toning workouts, etc.

Eta: Obviously this probably applies more or less to the average joe gym goer. There are plenty of athletes (both amateur and pro) who train 6 or more days per week for hours a day. But they're far from the norm! And overuse injuries are common across the board, due in part to the demands of such training. The body can only recover so fast, especially once one has passed the novice stage of any given activity.

Agreed. Firm believer in 3x a week that if you train hard when your in there, any more then this will just delay your progress. (My experience and opinion of course). I just keep my focus and intensity at 110% when I'm in there. Get in, train hard, get out.

Granted, I do wish I could be in there more, but it just stunts my growth, henceforth I stick to 3x/week.

I think there's a difference between going everyday and WANTING to go everyday - I want to go everyday but stick to every other day. I'd go everyday if i was on a split like chest, back, bis, tris, legs, shoulders, abs/cardio/conditioning. I couldn't do my current split. I'd rather spend 1 hour every other day than 30 minutes everyday. Unless I was on the sauce.

completely disagree. I get better results /am able to stcik with my routine with 7 days a week training. often, twice a day. anything less and i feel like a slackers. But i have a lot of time on my hands. your statement is only true if you're maxing out everyday. I squat 3x, deadlift 3x, and bench 3x a week, or so. everyone is different. some are used to rest days, some train for more frequencey. Theres no wrong method; our bodies are made to adapt, just gotta keep it adapting. so far, looking back on my logs, I go about 14-16 days of training in a row, then hit a wall take 2 days off (with a lot of GPP work, sled dragging) and then back into my everyday swing.

Not going to lie, I hate going to the gym. I like the way I feel afterwards, but actually getting there after a hard day at work is a pain in the ass. I do actually look forward to it right now, but that is mostly a result of extreme boredom.
