It's a tear in the abdominal wall and because the tear a bulge comes out, thats your guts underneath your skin and fat. 1/3 people get them in their lifetime they are very common and can happen even when lifting up something light, like a hairbrush or something. SO thats why being careful in the gym is very important.
The hernia can burst inside you which would lead to internal bleeding and fecal matter going into your blood, or you can strangulate the guts in your muscles and cause some serious **** to happen. Surgery for it takes no more than 20 minutes or so and you can begin again within a few weeks.

a hernia can happen to anyone from any physical duress. i knew a girl tht got one from running and had to get minor surgery. just always be careful. if you feel incredible pressure/pain in your lower abdomen or stomach take a break immediately. otherwise keep liftin

well theres different types of hernias though theres one thats with ur backbone...then theres another one thats when u lift something heavy ur intestines can go out of place and go into ur testes and that hurts alot!!..they say, thats never happend to me...a way to prevent it is using the weight lifting belt when u squat, deadlift etc...and i think theres another type of hernia too

hernias can literally be anywhere on your body. By your sternum by your obliques by your testes, ANYWHERE. Prevent by not pushing yourself too much too fast, use proper form, a belt works too

Yeah, I think may have one... I did abs last thursday and lower abs/belt line hurt like a mother****er whenever I try to sit up in bed, or lie on my stomach. It's funny, I do heavy deadlifts, squats, etc. without a belt. Yet the first time I do a real ab workout, I get a Hernia.

Could have been, some hernias heal if they are small enough if not it grows over time and you might not notice it being there until 3-4 months after it happens.

Can't tell, I was bulking and I lost my abs. Now I have a small gut, hence the reason I was starting to cut and do abs. So I can't really tell. If it lasts another week, i'm going to go to a doctor. I may have just pulled something.

I currently have a hernia. I am waiting on surgury ( I live in Canada so it may be a few weeks before I get evaluated by a surgeon - health care sucks up here, but its free so whatever ). Believe it or not, I got my hernia from coughing. I was really sick in the winter and had a nasty cough for around 2-3 weeks. Lots of pressure on my lower abdominal area caused the hernia. When I coughed I felt the hernia bulging. I guess its good that I got it from coughing and not from working out. Makes me feel better about lifting after i have my surgury and recover.
