Can someone dumb down commission process for me...
i've always worked for an hourly rate so the commission stuff is new to me and kind've confusing.......you're getting diff rates on new signups/renewals/etc
so if my gym charges $50 to the client and i get them to sign up for 10 sessions for a total of $500. How much would I generally get out of that (just make rough examples)....would i get 50%, $250 plus whatever my hourly training rate is. When would i be paid the commission rate, my next check.....
If i sold a annual package for like $5000, do they generally pay you your cut the next check or u get a % through the course of that clients tenure.

That totally depends on the gym and what your rate is set at. 50% commission is way too high, most gyms will do about 10% on new packages plus of course you get your rate per hour for training that person.
Most gyms will pay out the commission once the contract goes through the next month. However, the way some do it is based on payments. So, for example, your person pays $500 per month towards their package of $5000. You would get your 10% monthly, or $50 per month from the $500 payment. If they pay for the $5000 in full, you get the full $500 on your next months' pay.

having worked in three big box gyms.....
avg floor rate between 14-18 session to start, earned upwards of 38% at peak at a Golds
avg monthly sales commission 8-12% (on sliding scale based on quotas, sell more earn more)
avg floor hours 4-6 (at around 8 an hr)
commissions were paid out monthly for upfront sales (package paid in full)
efts (ie a clients monthly payment towards package) were paid monthly based on $ brought in on each payment
typically everything was in the next months check
there are some situations where yes, you can hit 50% of the individual session fee, but not in sales commission alone. at golds, 38% of session was the peak, couple with the 12% commission and supp sales and i would hit around 50% of the hourly rate charged to the client. still, nothing beats going out and getting a few good clients and bringing home 100% with so much less effort and headache of the big box

We don't pay comission on sales,,,however,,we pay our trainers $20/hr up to 20 sessions a week...$25/hr from 11-20 sessions week...$30/hr 21-30 sessions a week and finally $35 hr for anything over 30 sessions a week...On Occasion we will run contests for new client sign ups and bonus $100-200 on that as well..

My staff get a flat hrly rate. All they have to do is train the clients, not find new ones.

how it should be. let the trainers train and the sales staff do the sales. i bet you have some good trainers too? wheres your gym?

yeah i agree with the sales people do their thing, trainers do theres...
great i'm NASM certified, i'm confident in my training skills, i can get someone to reach their goals
but i have zero qualifications as a sales person and more so then being a trainer i'm being hired to be a sales person
at the two interviews i've gone to so far....as far as we've gotten in to training/exercise/programs, etc....is who are you certified through? THATS IT from both places. Everything else in the interview has been about sales/commissions, etc.....not one question about my methods, how i would do this or that....
