Any DMV brahs doing Rolling Thunder tomorrow? I know it's kind of a cruiser thing, but I'm tagging along with my dad (who happens to own a Harley). I'm looking forward to it though, should be fun despite being hot as balls tomorrow.

I've never done it. What do they all do once they get into D.c.?
Went out to skyline drive/211 yesterday. Amazing mountain. Too many cops that were being ass holes. Ticketing entire groups, checking registrations, speeding tickets for 38/35. I was sweeping when I saw the cop pull up behind us. Brb riding like a grandma down the mountain while the rest of my group was too far away to be identified.Redskins - Capitals - Wizards - Nationals

morning ND's, going out for a ride this morning. Love riding in the 60-70F range, beats the hell out of high 80s with humidity.
be safe the rest of the weekend.rumpler of stiltskins

We ended up not going, but once you get into DC you can do all kinds of stuff. They fill the entire Pentagon parking lot with bikes. You can then walk around and see the Veteran's Memorial, there are lots of vendors, or you can just ride there on the highway and turn around to come home.
Oh well, next year.
That sucks about Skyline though, I've been looking to get out there. Ticketing a whole group is pretty ghey*Knee Draggers Unite* - 2008 Kawasaki ZX6R

Guys I'm having a really tough internal debate with myself over getting into riding...this isn't even about my rents anymore, I'm having a struggle with only myself at this point. I keep going back and forth wondering if it's truly worth it. What scares me the most is how everyone tells me going down is inevitable. That by itself makes me feel stupid for even considering this. Of course I don't want to die but I'm someone who also doesn't have much excitement in his life and needs something like this to wake me the fuk up. If I didn't have a family that would be destroyed if I god forbid died riding then this would be a lot easier. I dunno guys, I wish this was an easier decision. I guess it's true that anything worth doing is gonna be dangerous in one way or another.

I went down twice in my first half year of riding. Have not been down since. Logged thousands of miles in all types of weather. Personally I do not ride like an idiot. Wear the gear. Be aware of what is around you, what is coming from behind and try to predict what people will do in front of you. Never ever hesitate though.

Driving a car long enough you are bound to get into a car accident. You try to prevent any injuries though by wearing a seatbelt. Riding, you will sooner or later go down and you know this by trying to protect yourself wearing all your gear. Other drivers to me was the worst thing about riding on the street. Start off with something smaller/cheaper and see if you like it.

Also, this GPZ1100 is giving me fits, which was expected. I'm going to have to go ahead and get ANOTHER CDI unit, 'cause that's the only thing that looks like the problem. If anybody's pretty good with electrical systems, give me a holler.

You would have kept up just fine. Both rides I've been on with those guys there have been a cruiser or two that tags along. The ride leader has been very good about making sure the whole group is together when turning onto a new road. I'm down for a misc crew meetup. I think it's just you me and The guy with the red 650r that are on both forums. I'll also be going on as many .net rides as possible this summer.Redskins - Capitals - Wizards - Nationals

Always wanted a dirtbike when I was younger but lived in town. Once I was getting close to my license I was thinking it would be interesting to get a motorcycle as well. Started riding with the intent to just ride twisty backroads, and now I do the whole track thing without riding on the street at all anymore.

I am the most cautious driver I have ever seen, and I went down on a corner with gravel. Luckily I was going like 10mph so I just dropped bike and ran it off without even going down. Driving a motorcycle has made me more of a cautious driver in general. Even when you get back into your car you will drive more defensive. I feel like fear of going down shouldnt stop you from the joy of riding. Thats like saying I dont want to talk outside because theres a chance of a car hitting me, I dont wanna play sports or lift weights out of fear of tearing a muscle. I think theres more of a chance of getting in a car crash then a motorcycle accident, its just that the motorcycle accident has a better chance of injury obviously. Get good gear, drive defensively, and you'll be find. Please stay safe.

Thanks for the input guys. If I do decide to go ahead with this I've already made the choice to get a 500. I'd be looking at either a 500r or GS500...am I good either way? I much prefer the looks of the GS500.

Eh i didnt go down till my 3rd season riding. I did break my femur, but came away scratch free otherwise.
Still riding today, Yet ive toned it down a little bit (not riding like a total lunatic).
I like riding and even commuting on my bike because it feels like an adventure everwhere you go. Cars are jsut boring point A to point B machines really. Cept in the winter, my WRX is fun as ****.

guys im doin so much research on what bike im finally going to settle on what gear to get etc...
im looking for a helmet around $200-$250 max that has decent airflow and is proven reliable...
i dont really need bluetooth, i like how scorpion has the internal retractable sun visor (im sure other companies do too but scorpion caught my eye)
but those arent necessities
and i like graphics but tastefull graphics nothing real flashy
opinions are appreciated!
NOW onto my bike issue, i really wanted a cbr600 buttttttt i really dont need the power since i wont use it, and im sure insurance would be killer
so now im looking more into ninja 650 and yamahas fz6
and possibly ninja 250?
would i get made fun of for riding a 250(not totally serious cause i dont care but i am 6'2"-6'3") so i dont wanna be cramped i havent found one to sit on yet, and i have a fair share of highway riding that needs to be doneARMY STRONG

so today around dawn im leaving my boys place and the bike highlights didnt turn on. I didnt feel like messing with it so i rode home. All i gotta say is that riding without headlights is sketchy as hell! Fuark that!
I got home and checked fuses and the headlight 10a was blown. Gonna replace it with a 15a tomorrow, as some HID ballasts draw a little more than 10a at ignition, and hopefully it doesnt blow again. So until i make it into Autozone tomorrow, i have no horn. Lights are back though

Check out the HJC IS 16. Has internal visor and is cheaper.
Nothing wrong with a 250. An accomplished rider on a 250 can embarrass many people on liter bikes. Also think about the SV650. It makes a reasonable first bike for someone with some self control and coordination. No sir, I don't like it.
