Fn fal. Fantastic rifles. Not exactly with the fit and finish of the newer rifles but they're very nice to shoot.
Hard to add modern accessories on to it.

When I move up to the big boy realm of battle rifle instead of carbines, an M1A is the plan.
I have had one for the past 4yrs or so. Go MWS instead

Whats your price range? A DPMS LR308, Armalite AR10, FAL, M1A cost about the same somewere around $1500. The Scar, Larue etc. is going to be double that. I would stick with a AR platform since its easier to accessorize.
This thread got me looking at FALs more... and I think if I were to dive into the world of .308 rifles I'd go with one of them. It seems like a simple reliable platform and without the option to stick a billion pounds of crap on it I probably wouldn't be so inclined. Also... some of them look dead sexy.

There ya go. The OP asked about BATTLE rifles. A battle rifle shouldn't have a fcking Picatinny can-opener, forend-mounted camcorder and a sunscreen compartment in the stock.
If you ever really need to use your rifle in a firefight situation, you're not going to be taking a two-count and shooting groups through your EOTech. Watch from 6:45...

My point in mentioning it is European is there are going to be more m1a's and ar10's floating around than FALs. Id love to own a FAL
There are also going to be more Toyota 3.4L motors floating around...does that mean I want an SR5 instead of my 5.9L Cummins Dodge?
(Hint: Rhymes with "mo")

Not heavy enough to keep you from toting it around when the entire economic, social and technological infrastructure goes down. Even with the 100 round drum.
Clearly he's an expert in all things AK and AR... I'm sure that the vast majority of Marines that would watch that get sick every time he brings up his service.

i lold when he shook the gun around with his finger on the trigger.
A friend of mine has a DPMS that he swears by. It's less pricy than some of the other options and works great.
Thats because it's less of a gun. It's not like DPMS is such a great company that they build an SR25 quality rifle at 1/4 the price and absorb the difference; making less profit. They cut corners and make a weapon out of cheaper parts. There may just be a reason that they military went with the SR25 for the SASS and not DPMS. There may be a reason that the Brits adopted the MWS instead of a DPMS variant.
DPMS builds rifles that are range toys. They market those rifle to the dirt clod shooting crowd and they sell a bunch of them.. and thats fine as long as they are used as such. If you want a range toy or a cheap .308 AR to hunt pig with, get a DPMS. If you want a serious 7.62x51mm battle rifle, get a Larue, Knights, LMT, SCAR or FAL. The Larue PredatAR or LMT would be the most economical.
Suprised no one is suggesting the Keltek RFB. They are pretty popular up here. We don't have may MRBs up here minus the M14 in several flavours.
Rob Arms is releasing a XCR-M in 7.62 here some time too.

Tuna, chicken, steak, broccoli and mayo - I come at you!
Canadians carried FNs for years as service rifles before the C7. That said they are prohibs along with the AK and a million other firearms that I will never be allowed to shoot. Political BS.

As long as we are talking .308 round guns, whats your take on getting a 700 sps tactical w/ some decent glass and learning the ropes of long range shooting. Bear in mind I would like to keep all things made in USA.
