How do you estimate how many calories are in meal?

k well lately i've been telling my mom to cook meats and chicken everyday for me and ive gained a clean 7 pounds so far. i haven't been counting calories but now i feel like i should be counting calories to make sure i'm gaining at a steady pace.

so basically since my mom cooks me a lot of food now how am i supposed to know how many calories are in it. same with buying food from fast food and stuff. is there a good way to estimate how many calories are in a piece of food or meal

Go google the calories for each ingredient she uses. It won't be spot on accurate but it's the best you can do since you do not make it yourself.

Try using fitday. They will probably have most of the meals you're eating and you can put in how much of each meal.

For fast food you can easily search up the nutritional value online

For example my mother did a casserole with artichokes, white sauce and chicken breasts
I asked her the ingredients she used, so it was in this meal:

    2 pounds artichokes (180 calories)
2 pounds chicken breast (1100 calories)
    16oz milk (245 calories)
    1 oz flour (210 calories)
    1 oz butter (100 calories)
3 oz parmesan cheese (318 calories)

So you could either sum both calories and weights and weigh your portion (2153 calorie and 3 pounds and 5 oz) or you could just figure out your portion from the shape of the cooking pan. Like my portion was 1/6 of the total, so 358 calories... more or less
