Alright...so I am in a back and forth over a Parabody sled. The price is right, it matches my other Parabody equipment, etc. One problem.....seller (obviously an older guy...says that his wife used it to rehab a knee) says that when he bought it that he had to "hacksaw" a piece off of the safety setup for his wife. He has sent me two pics of the deal, but I dont know what the hell I am looking at. Seller says that the sled when all the way down is "only 3-4 inches below catch position".
Any input would be appreciated. I want this model but is this one safe?

Not sure why he would cut these off...
What you are looking at is the catches should you fail on your set.
Here are the safeties on mine:
If I remember right, the safeties were below my normal range of motion anyway. I have never had to use them during use but it is nice knowing that they are there should I fail on a set.
I actually think that by the time they stop the sled, you would be in pretty bad shape anyway. So I'm not sure that it is a deal breaker but 3 to 4 inches in a fail situation could be a problem.
Note, I am a Safety Manager so my view on this leans heavily to the safety side of things.....[]---[] Equipment Crew #34 []---[]

i have the same sled and that "modification" doesn't look right. my wife is also petite but we can both work on the sled without a problem. i wouldn't buy any equipment where i intend to go really heavy where the owner made ANY mods to the safety aspects.
i see plenty of sleds like on craigslist so i would just bide my time if i was you.Mens sana in corpore sano

this mod wouldn't concern me too much, as long as that is the only one.
He cut the safeties off, now imagine you bought the sled new and you lost control with a lot of weight on it, they would likely be bent after that. Like someone else said, a welder can pop those off and put something else on pretty easily.

I will NOT be owning the sled.
Had a conversation with the seller. I explained that I would need to have a welder fabricate new safety catches and would also need to purchase a considerable amount of weight since his wife had never owned more that 30 Pounds of plates. The guy told me "you really dont need much weight at all. I get a big burn after 10 reps." I controlled myself from laughing into the phone. He also disclosed that the seat has a tear in it.
Sometimes its hard to buy from people that have zero idea of what they have. I think that is the case here. They have zero weight, have sawed off the machine's main Safety feature and think its $2000 new (as they were told when they bought it used).
They were asking $400 and were unwilling to come down on price at all.
I passed.
Thanks for they responses. They made me formulate what I wanted to do.Home Journal: Me vs. Myself @.....http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=125942203

i love craigs. this guy id like to meet him just to laugh in his face. parabody sled was only like 800 new, it doesnt even exist anymore and even if it was brand new id still offer 400 max, but being as its god knows how old and he ruined it, guy would be lucky to get 100 for it....but on craigs for every ten people you get like this, ull find the one guy who works for a rehab center and was given the responsibility of getting rid of the brand new hammer strength machine and since he has no idea what it is, he'll give it to you for 40 bucks lol....yes ive seen this happen more than once

Yeah, I got this a few weeks ago for $100. It was just dusty, had practically no wear on the machine other than where it latches the sled.
