How often can I do pushups?

I keep reading how great pushups are for you, but I usually only do them on chest days.

Can I be doing pushups every day, even on non chest days? Or do I need to rest more often.

Look, you can do ANY exercise for ANY bodypart ANY days of the week. It all depends on volume, intensity and frequency. Frequency is directly related to volume and intensity per workout you do.

If you give the muscle it's own day, and hit it for 45-60 minutes, you might want to keep it to once a week. If you add it into another body parts workout, and slam it for 10-20 minutes, sure.. 2-3x a week should be good. If you do it as an afterthought, maybe a lot of high rep stuff, or give it a few sets at the end of every workout; every day should be fine.

Pushups are a fantastic exercise and since they're not too taxing on the CNS and the muscle (yet still have benefits) you can easily 100-200 reps every few days (check my sig for more info). If you're a beginner this may be beneficial, but really, if you're a bit more advanced the pushups may interfere with your other workouts.
