Steve Wynn “Until he(Obama) is gone everyone is going to be sitting on their thumbs”

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/59333.html - full article

Obama, Wynn added, “keeps making speeches about redistribution and maybe we ought to do something to businesses that don’t invest, their holding too much money. We haven’t heard that kind of talk except from pure socialists. Everybody’s afraid of the government and there’s no need soft peddling it, it’s the truth. It is the truth.”

“I support Harry Reid,” he said. “I support Democrats and Republicans. And I’m telling you that the business community in this company is frightened to death of the weird political philosophy of the President of the United States. And until he’s gone, everybody’s going to be sitting on their thumbs.”
I work in a small business and see this first hand everyday with the business owners in my community. People simply are not investing, hiring, and building because of the uncertainty created by the “weird political philosophy” of Obama. Obama has created an environment were people don’t have the slightest clue what their taxes are going to be in a few years. They don’t know how exactly this healthcontrol bill will affect them. They don’t know what bizarre environmental policies might be next and what they will do to energy costs. I just hope the business community starts to speak up like this. The American people need to hear their side of the story instead of the constant demonization of them.
…we have not spent the last 65 million or so years finely honing our physiology to watch Oprah. Like it or not, we are the product of a very long process of adaptation to a harsh physical existence, and the past couple centuries of comparative ease and plenty are not enough time to change our genome. We humans are at our best when our existence mirrors, or at least simulates, the one we are still genetically adapted to live. And that is the purpose of exercise. - Mark Rippetoe

Not only Obama, the tea party has had a radical impact on Republicans.

"...Any business owner should fear Obama, he says.

"That's true of Democratic businessman and Republican businessman, and I am a Democratic businessman and I support Harry Reid. I support Democrats and Republicans," Wynn said.

"Until we change the tempo and the conversation from Washington, it’s not going to change. And those of us who have business opportunities and the capital to do it are going to sit in fear of the President. And a lot of people don’t want to say that. They’ll say, God, don’t be attacking Obama. Well, this is Obama’s deal and it’s Obama that’s responsible for this fear in America." ----- Steve Wynn.

I think he nailed it, Obama is too far left for American business to have any level of comfort with him and they are going to minimize their risk by not investing until their comfort level rises. No matter what the average person thinks of Obama, things are not going to get much better economically until he is gone.

There could be some improvement under an Obama presidency after 2012 (supposing he is reelected), if Republicans gain control of the Senate and retain the House. The fact that Obama would be partially neutered in his ability to make policy might inspire businesses to invest again.

Well, you need to say something stupid first, I don't just throw the word around for no reason you know, you don't get freebies.

Do you think Obama is anti-business or far left-wing?

Though, in your OP, it's hilarious to know that small business owners are so stupid, they don't know how to read the internet; They could answer any questions they have for the health care bill, considering most of it is based on employee count.

It's pretty mindboggling how a lot of folks think that Obama is some super-liberal socialist. Would a super-liberal socialist:

    extend the Bush tax cuts?
    continue oil subsidies?
    continue the wars?
    cave on environmental legislation?
    cave on healthcare?
propose a larger deficit reduction package than the GOP?
    leave Guantanamo Bay open?
lay down for the Republicans on the new consumer protection agency?

One person didn't get us in this mess. The lack of a proper regulatory environment coupled with copious amounts of greed did. Obama is a scapegoat, an excuse to enable the guys who got us in this mess to wait it out and then return to business as usual.

no. He has to be sent back to chicago south side, otherwise he would just veto everything. And nothing can get done.

The GOP victory in 2010, stopped his agenda. But it cannot advance GOP agenda. Not yet. If he gets a second term, he will go even more insane.

    Thing is, it doesn't matter...

His rhetoric has been anti-business, he has caved to pressure on a number of things, and right or wrong, the perception in the business community is that only a great amount of pressure is holding him in check. I think the perception that he is anti-business is correct based on his statements about redistribution and his actions, particularly around the Gulf Coast, but again, my opinion doesn't matter.

The important opinion on this is that of the business leaders, and they are holding on to their money, not hiring and not investing. Until their opinion changes, the economy wont change much.

Our political landscape as gone full retard. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it even though right wing ideologues will never listen. Obama is right of center and the business community hasn't had a president this good since Reagan. He is literally in the pockets of wall street and big business more than any democrat president in modern history.

Anyone who is left is center see Obama for who he really is. A wall street trojan horse.

I hear this all the time: Businesses are "uncertain" about the future.

Of course they aren't saying that they'll ONLY make moves to expand their businesses if taxes are cut, and will pack up and ship out if taxes aren't cut or are raised. They're simply saying they can't make any moves until policies are put in place, and temporary tax cuts are made permanent or expire, and the debt ceiling is raised. Businesses will never stop doing business in the US regardless of our tax structure. Our consumer base is too large.

The only ones holding up the show at this point are the Republicans.

Might I also point out that the word "weird" simply means odd or unusual, unless they are using the archaic meaning of controlling fate or destiny, but that is what all economic policies are designed for.

The "uncertainty" argument is pure bullsht. Business will hire when there is demand, period. Tax rates (lowest they have ever been) and regulation (least they have ever been) is irrelevant. Can tax rates and regulation cripple business? Yes, but where are no where near there.

Mark my words and bookmark this post. If a republican gets elected in 2012 we will be a third world country in every measurable way by 2016. Unemployment will be 15%+, the median income will be comparable to mexico, and the top 1% will control 90%+ of the wealth.

Yet Obama wants to extend tax cuts on 95% of all businesses in the US. The companies that employ the most Americans and create the most jobs. He's a real hack.
