    Question what to eat before the gym ?

    can somone tell me some tips for a gym snack before the gym food thats isnt masive in calories but will give me alot of energy and keep me going at the minute iam haveing a banana chopped up on 2 slices of toast 1 hour before the gym i will ethier be doing weighting for abou t 1 hour 30 or a 9km run in 50 mins ???

    That's fine. Some good carbs, but nothing heavy is the way to go. If your body is busy digesting, it can actually take away from your workout. However, energy comes from carbs, so getting in some an hour or so before the workout can help increase performance...

    ...so basically what I'm saying is that what you're doing is fine.

    There are plenty of people who go to the gym fasted and break previous PR's. You don't need anything before you go to the gym, it's all opinion, your body isn't going to get a magic boost of energy from eating an hour before you go to the gym.

    Keep it simple, I usually get in a banana, some protein and a few almonds about 60 minutes prior to training. Bananasz are a good source of potassium which helps with maintaining nerve and muscle function.

    ^^ This... I never eat anything a minimum of two hours before hitting the gym, it takes away from my workout.

    well if you're on the run a shake with some carbs in it will suffice but if you have time to cook a meal. i usually have my egg whites and oatmeal for my pre-workout meal about an hour or so before i hit the gym. or sometimes i'll opt for ezekiel bread with a bit of all natural peanut butter. just make sure you have something in your stomach before you go train. you're going for good clean protein sources and good clean complex carbs.

    For me I usually go with some ground beef and/or eggs and some oatmeal 1-1.5h before and then preWO drink 20-30min before.

    No it's not. Your body obviously uses blood for digestion. If you have a heavy meal too close to training, you will have blood diverted to your digestive tract. Blood that could be carry oxygen and nutrients to your muscles. Oxygen is needed to create ATP. ATP is needed to do work.
