Last week I was on my last set of bench presses and just tried to push one more rep. I quickly realized there was no way in hell that bar was getting back up to the top notch and quickly tossed it onto the lower rack. This really shook me up and I'm not sure wtf I was doing bench pressing alone. Now I don't even understand how most people can do this. My arms totally gave out and the bar was only a couple inches from missing that lower rack and killing me. At my gym i rarely see people spotting for one another. Is there a secret to bench pressing alone? I think right now I'd be too scared to lift heavy or go anywhere near fatigue on the bench =/

I had a 225lb barbell come down on me during my last benching sesh. The crazy thing is I genuinely thought I had enough power to drive it back up.
I lowered it to my stomach, pushed it to my waist and sat up via a swing movement, then just grabbed the BB double overhand and walked it slowly to a safe spot.
No harm done, but defo not a smart move and not a safe one."Honor is something that all men are born with. It cannot be taken from you nor can it be granted. It must only not be lost."

This right here. Don't put the collars on the end. If you get stuck, tilt one side until they fall off and then drop the other side in a controlled manner.
Some of the other guys have posted a youtube vid of a method to swing it down your torso in a smooth motion (I'm sure one of the vets can dig it up for you) but I've never enjoyed much success using that technique.Use the tools of the trade to help you. I use devices such as chalk for grip strength, gloves, wrist straps, lifting belts - if it helps you lift more, it's all good. - Ronnie Coleman, Hardcore, 2007 Triumph Books
Biggest question in bodybuilding: Whaddaya bench? As I've said before, it doesn't matter how much you bench; it matters how much you look like you bench... There's no round on stage that's the benchpress round. - Bob Chicherillo, World Class Physique, CMG
