"Actually eschewing the concept of simple notification, this front organization for the drug companies is now going to require the sellers and manufacturers of supplements to submit NDI detailed reports on every single ingredient they have added to any of their products since 1994. These reports are supposed to include “proof” of the effectiveness of these ingredients in the form of peer-reviewed articles published in scientific journals and results from clinical test trials. After reviewing this evidence, the FDA will decide whether or not to approve these ingredients for sale to the public. Until that approval comes through, sellers and manufacturers of nutritional and dietary supplements will be required to cease and desist from offering their products for sale to the public."

I can noot understand why the government has any say on what we put in our bodies. On a similar note, I find it funny that is is ok and legal for you to go pay a doctor to augment your body in any way you want, but if you want to take "something" to help you reach your fitness goals it is illegal, or now the FDA will have to approve.

Because the government is corrupted. The corporate/pharms pay the politicians out to ban specific products so the companies can push their out.

I like the idea of supplements makers being more truthful with ingredients but it seems as if this is happening for the wrong reason. More regulation = less competition = higher prices for the consumer.

This isn't about them not wanting you to take supps. It's going tO prove how ineffective some of these supps are... Im a chemical/biomedical engineer and we've been wondering aloud for years how so many people buy this crap.

What if the supplement companies simply stop stating, "These products will make you big and strong!" and instead just market them as "These products contain high amounts of protein, which is proven to lead to muscle growth. They also contain betasomin-whatever, which might not affect you, but here you go."

Unfortunately it is going to be a lot more complicated then that. If you actually read the article they will be requiring quite a bit more than a change of labels. What it boils down to is the government and pharmaceutical companies making more money and us losing more of our freedom.
