Why is polygamy illegal?

I am sure this has been discussed here before, lets hear it again.

I dont see any reason why a woman shouldnt be allowed to marry a married man or why a man shouldnt be allowed to marry more than once.

I think it was made illegal specifically to fight against the mormon religion. other religions wanted to maintain control over their flock so they banned a major tenet of the mormon religion which resulted in the mormons all moving to utah.

IT's just like how marijuana was made illegal because mexican immigrants and black people smoked it. So they outlawed it so that they had a way to legally fight against those groups.

None at all. Don't really see it as a slippery slope at all. Government should not infringe on the private lives of it's citizens. Laws need be in place to protect people from third parties, not from themselves.

It's better for females to share one rich/powerful male than it is for them to have a mediocre male all to themselves. Consequently, in ancient times, this was a way for the unpowerful masses to attempt to even the field against the powerful few.

Look, there might be issues that the people who get poly-amorous marriages have to deal with, however if they consent they have to deal with them.

Tax issues and reworking the tax code to deal with it, thats an issue. However outside of a moral reason, which shouldn't utterly restrict freedom....

As long as children are raised lovingly, people live non marriage poly-amorous life styles and children do end up fine, not always as a lot of people who get into them have other issues but I digress.

When there is an oversupply of men, few women would enter into polygamous marriages. Except the women who find it hard to get married for some reason or the other (unattractiveness, or some similar trait).
