Hi,
Which kind of light do you recommend for a home gym in the basement? Neon Light? Bulb? Bright or not? Another much more advanced solution (light voice controlled, dimmer...)?

Here is a whole thread on it.
Good bit of info in here if I remember correctly

Depends how much money you are willing to spend, and whether or not you want the job looking professional. If it were going in a basement or garage, I'd install some cheap ballasts & run full spectrum natural light florescent tubes. You want your gym well lit with good light bulbs that simulate sunlight. Cheap lighting is very fatiguing and could hinder your motivation for workouts.
Track lighting looks nice, clean, and professional, but it's much more expensive.

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

I have 3 ballasts in my garage gym, and it only makes noise the first 10 seconds being powered while the tubes are warming up. Beyond that is a very subtle and gentle hum that is easily drowned out by lifting weights & low volume music. My biggest concern was cost, and it was a cheap lighting solution. The full spectrum bulbs make a HUGE difference when working out at night. I used to drag ass for workouts and dread the gym/dungeon, and now I feel energized and motivated from good lighting.

I'm using fluorescents. Sorry as I can't recall which Kelvin they are . I'm using the T8 style which are 1" in diameter , and the ballasts are solid state , meaning no hum. 4 footers consume 33watts , so not to terribly bad .
I'm not a big fan of LED room lighting , as they don't put out a very good source of light . In fact there doing studies right now that are showing health issues because of the huge spike in the blue light that they emit .
It's effecting people's sleep patterns which is contributing to all sorts of health issues .
Google it if you get a chance
Make Misc great again

I replaced my fluorescents with 13" square LED's from Lowes. They were about $30 each. I put 4 up in a 16 x 24 space and it lights up like daytime. The light is 'filling' not localized and floods the room. I'm not a doctor, expert, nor did I stay in Holiday Inn Express, but the lighting in my gym is incredibly better than it was with the fluorescents and no lighting illnesses for me so far.

Oh yeah. No doubt. I went with LED recessed high hats in my basement gym. I love the brightness and whiteness of these. Not just for working out, but for anywhere. The one drawback... Pictures. Not the ones you hang on wall. I am talking photographs. It is not a good lighting for photos. Everything that I take down there are terrible. I guess they put out too much glare.

I use a bunch of these Pixi LED panels from Home Depot. http://m.homedepot.com/b/Lighting-Ce...5yc1vZbvn5Zbi0
I chose the 4000K daylight temp. I have 6 1x4 and 1 2x2 in a ~400 sq ft gym, then more in the gym "annex". It's super bright. I went with this particular one because our basement ceiling is low and these come down only about a half an inch. I had a globe lights before, I smacked one once and decided to replace the lot. These are not cheap, but they use little electricity and are terrific!
