Standard Bar vs. Olympic Bar- Grip

In your opinion which bar is easier to hold? I ask because I currently use a standard bar when I deadlift and I struggle to hold even 230 without a mixed grip. Is a standard bar harder to hold, or is my grip just ****ty? I usually dead lift 4x8. With a mixed grip I am fine, but with a normal pronated I struggle.

    Thanks in advance!

grip must be poop, i only use standard, and deadlift 242.5 i never use mixed grip no problems.
Eat for what you are about to do, not for what you have already done.

if i don't know how to cut ,why would i be bold enough to bulk?

'Failure' isn't a requirement for growth, but progression is.

Ya, I've gotten up to 255 with a standard pronated grip but could only manage 6 reps on 2 sets without feeling like I am about to drop it. Around 230 is where my grip seems to fail.

I prefer a thicker bar (no homo) but I have always used an olympic bar so that's just what I'm used to.

A standard bar is thinner, while an olympic bar is thicker. I think to be exact the standard bar is 28mm in diameter while an olympic is 50mm.

I believe the olympic bar I currently us is like either 31-32mm but there are lighter/smaller bars available which are around 28mm (could be wrong on circumference but I'm pretty sure I'm close. The thicker of the two bars just seems to fit better in my hand. If I had smaller hands I would probably feel differently about it.

standard bar is shorter than an oly bar. the standard bar i have back at home is about the same thickness in the handle part though as an oly bar.

your grip is weak right now OP. although if you want to get grip stronger you might want to consider some training specifically for that purpose.

    Many differences between bars.

"A men's Olympic bar is a metal bar that is 2.2 m (7.22 ft) long and weighs 20 kg (44.1 lbs).[5] The outer ends are 50 mm (1.9685 in) in diameter, while the grip section is 28 mm (1.1024 in) in diameter, and 1,310mm (51.57 in) in length. The bars have grip marks spaced 910 mm apart to allow intuitive grip width measurement. It is the standard used in competitive weightlifting where men and women compete at the highest level - the Commonwealth Games, Pan-American Games, World Championships, and the Olympics. The total weight of the barbell varies based on the type and number of plates loaded onto the ends of the bar and the lift being performed and can be as much as 1,200 pounds (540 kg) which is the limit of total load.[1]"

"A standard barbell is 28-32mm thick all the way along except for wider rings delimiting the end sections. It is a single solid piece of metal without rotating parts. There is no standard length or weight -- although for computing total plate/bar weight, the "standard" bar is 7 feet (2.1 m) long and weighs approx. 20 kgs. EZ Curl bars are shorter and weigh less -- estimate weight of bar at approx. 3 kgs./ft"

Most importantly, Olympic bars have rotating sleeves. Standards do not. Any movement where a weight can spin, (which is just about all, but especially olympic movements, like power cleaning, snatches) the olympic bars rotating sleeves will rotate with the weight, allowing for easier movement. A standard does not rotate, so your own wrists have to struggle to prevent the bar from rotating uncontrollably, which would make an olympic bar easier in this respect.

Olympic bars are also much better balanced. You can load around 2 45's on one side of an olympic, and it won't fall over. Anything more than a 10 on most standards, and it will fall.

EDIT: My opinion, Olympic is easier.
