    What injury is this

Dont know what i did but woke up monday with a huge pain in my back/side around the 12th rib or latissimus dorsi. Hurts like hell when i sneeze or when i push it with my fingers. Its friday now and it still hurts just as much as it did monday. Its not swollen nor is it black or blue. Not sure what to think or do plus ive been going to the gym anyways

Probably a back spasm. Have someone find the insertion point and likely a trigger point. Mash fck out of it then it should get better. Aleve and ice as needed. If not, try a chiropractor.

Rib could be out of place. See a Chiropractor.

I had these once. Chiropractor put it back in place. That event hurt like hell, but it was worth the pain to remove the misery.

If its a back spasm there will be a knot. Ya, press until it releases. Like hammer said, could be a misplaced rib. A chiropractor can fix either.

I was leaning toward the pulled/tore-a-ligament idea. Did that when I was in my early twenties, couldn't breathe right for a month while it healed. I'm not a doctor, BTW, so check with a professional if the pain doesn't go away.

Any activity the day before that could have caused it?

it has happened before to a fairly famous athlete.

Sneezing injury puts Cubs' Sosa on bench
    Baseball notebook

    The Associated Press

SAN DIEGO - Sammy Sosa felt a bit sheepish while explaining why he wasn't able to play Sunday against the San Diego Padres.

He sneezed twice shortly after arriving in the clubhouse before the game, which brought on back spasms and forced him to grab a chair to support himself. Sosa spent the afternoon in the trainer's room receiving treatment.

Are you having any other symptoms? Nausea? Blood in urine? Etc. Or is it just tender / sore? If you're having other symptoms, go see a doctor ASAP. Either way, if it hasn't gotten better since Monday, I would go see a doctor regardless.

I'd be trying to have someone massage it out first. Invest in a 1/2 hour at a massage place for best results. They can zero in on the trigger points. Take 2 Aleves at a time to reduce inflammation. Ice always helps as well.

Torn muscle us usually a sharp burning pain, for me anyway. I don't really know much about chiropractors but massaging it is probably a good idea and if that doesn't work a sports doctor. All a gp will tell you to do is rest it.

Just ask yourself if it will keep you from doing your normal workouts. If it will then address it, if not then work around it.

either way it should go away.

I would actually avoid getting a massage until you figure out what it is. Muscle pains, knots, etc. don't usually last a week. They can, yes, but if it hurts when you push on it, why would you pay someone money to push on it harder? There could be underlying issues that need to be addressed before people just start putting their hands on it. I don't mean to disagree with the advice of others, but I would rather be safe than sorry. That's right where your kidneys are located, and not to freak you out, but it could be an inflamed kidney or something else.

Take the money you'd spend on a massage therapist and go see a doctor. Get an x-ray or at least an honest medical opinion. That's just my 2 cents. Take it for what it's worth.

My buddy thought he had a pulled abdominal muscle but instead had a hernia. He ignored it and never went to the doctor. Now he's sporting some mesh in his stomach after he had emergency surgery.
