ITT people dont understand how hard it can be for some ectos to put on size. i am like you OP. i am an ecto with sh!tty muscle building genetics. I have absolutely killed it in the gym/kitchen for 5 years now, counting every single gram of food i eat, havent missed a meal for over three years, havent missed a workout since i started lifting 2006 etc
the insane amount of effort and dedication, the thousands of hours reading up on nutrition/lifting, it all takes a toll on you when the results just dont come. i was pretty much depressed because of it. after two years i looked like i didnt even lift and just couldnt understand how so much dedication+ knowledge didnt result in anything. no results = no motivation, and without motivation it is EXTREMELY hard to keep on going. people often say that 99% of people give up when it gets tough, but that is not true. its when the motivation is gone that 99.9999% of people give up.
somehow i kept going tho (without motivation. it was brutal. i was depressed because of it) and today ive achieved a physique i am proud of. that being said i would rather be dead then redo it all. if i could go back in time i would take steroids and save myself all the mental torture /depression/lack of confidence that those resultless years induced.

-if you've got bad genetics, steroids are the way to go (cycle up OP, srs)

I have the same problem as OP, although thankfully I'm not that skinny.
To everyone who says "eat more": did you not read the part where he said he tried bulking and turned skinny FAT? It's the same for me, eating more just makes me more...skinny fat.

I am sure you are doing things wrong. You are probably lifting like the majority of people I see at my gym-incorrectly with form and not going hard enough. Go to failure, true failure, and use good form. And if you turned skinny fat in your bulk, your bulk was not clean enough. Too many people use a bulk as an excuse to eat cheeseburgers and crap like that because they think its ok since they are bulking. Bulking is eating clean but lots of it

i started working out twice a day (srs). seven days a week. no rest days or deloads. hitting every muscle group 3-4 times a week with loads of volume and heavy weight.
i basically work out 2 hours each session twice a day. minimum of 30 sets each session. and HEAVY WEIGHT. i note down every single repetition and weight and make sure i progress each session. if i dont progress its either due to lack of sleep or not enough cals/carbs.
at first i mega bulked at 8000 cals a day but i got fat. i realized that over eating didnt result in more muscle (take note of that all of you miscer who always say "EAT MORE SKINNY ECTO *******")
i only eat so much food that i can progress in the gym. if lifts continuously go up you know you are eating enough.
imo overtraining is a myth. the body adapts very quickly as long as you stick with it and keep on pushing.

You tried and failed. You need to try harder. Eat a ton of simple carbs in your meals like pasta with ground meat and sauce. Pizza is another good weight gainer. Peanut butter works, too. Eat like you're trying to get fat as fuk, and lift until you're sore. Stay sore, but don't over-do any muscle groups. Don't hurt yourself -- just stay sore. Take a minimal 1 day break whenever you need to (every week or 2). If you're not eating red meat, you're not trying to get any bigger. You will gain mass in time. Do not give up, and don't let plateaus discourage you. You can hit biceps and calves every 2 or 3 days, and you can hit abs almost every day (srs).

If you lift heavy weights is there even a purpose for pushups anymore?
