What to eat before morning Yoga?

I'm starting an early morning yoga class (7am) tomorrow and I am wondering what (if any) I should eat before?

I'm all about 'breaking the fast' when I wake, but I don't want to feel bloated (or gas-filled). Any food recommendations from morning yoga-goers?

I used to do a simple yoga stretching/abs routine a few years back after workouts to clear my mind, but it was all self taught and didn't go anywhere. I lack, yet desire structure in my life and something that gets me up early in the morning with a disciplined mind is a good start =) (not to mention free at my gym!)

Also, the type I'm starting is Hatha.

If you want to be legit about it, drink a glass of water with honey. That's what I did when I would do morning yoga. Personally, an empty stomach helps me have stronger ab contraction and better balance during yoga and many instructors will say that digestion will take away from yoga practice because of the blood flow to the stomach and inner pressure. I have also found my mind is clearer during yoga if I don't eat.

Otherwise, I'd say something light like yogurt or some good bread such as Ezekiel bread with honey. I would strongly advise against coffee; I've tried it and it adds nothing to experience, especially when one of yoga's purpose is to clear the mind and invigorate sensations.

Please cite peer-reviewed scientific journals that state fasting helps with grounding and deepens meditation.
