    DOMS for growth?

    Fellow BB.com readers,

I recently read an article that I have arguments with. In the article, it was noted that in order to achieve the greatest muscle growth, eccentric lengthening and micro-trauma to the point of DOMS must be reached.

    Thoughts?

    Nope.

Progression is the engine that drives growth, not "DOMS." Train to increase the weight and/or reps you can lift with good form over time, and you will make gains, providing, of course, that your nutrition and sleep quantity/quality is sufficient to support recovery.
    No brain, no gain.

"The fitness and nutrition world is a breeding ground for obsessive-compulsive behavior. The irony is that many of the things people worry about have no impact on results either way, and therefore aren't worth an ounce of concern."--Alan Aragon

Muscle soreness and growth don't necessarily correlate. DOMS = body not being adjusted to a particular rep/weight/exercise. Focus on how your lifts are progressing and what you see in the mirror, rather than the pain you do or don't feel

Not true at all. If you overload your muscles too much to the point where you need longer than usual recovery, you will get less growth than progressive overload with shorter recovery cycles.
