It can fill the gaps left from a bad diet or to "cover all your bases" or for someone who doesn't have the budget to have a lot of variety in their nutrition.
but I would always reccomend someone to have a well balanced diet first and then supplement with just the individual nutrients they need or are lacking.
Besides, at 16 yrs old, you don't need to worry about supps yet. Just eat a variety of foods and stay active

A good multi with proper doses and bioavailability can do wonders for skin, vision, nails and hair.
It also helps a bit with recovery and I remember reading one time, a multi can prevent over-training up to a certain limit.*Go to the bathroom, flex in mirror and forget to pee crew*
*Shave one of my legs and pretend it's a girl in my bed crew*
*T-mobile worker laughed at me because only had one number for 5-friends/family list plan crew*

Its more less a security blanket to make sure your getting all the nutrients you need. At age 16 a mulivitamin is a great choice.
